Server N54L 8GB SSD 6x Spinners HD6450June 11, 2017 at 11:01 am #8934I’ve watched that footage a few times and noticed that at about 10 seconds in, when the car is sliding, the front wheels are straight. At about 11 seconds they are turned, as if he’s trying to save the slide.
I reckon it’s a fault with the 4 wheel drive system or the brakes. Maybe both. As for the fire, good chance it was the battery.
June 11, 2017 at 11:23 am #8936Electric cars usually assist braking by turning the motor into a generator. It could be that the battery died and short circuited away all its braking effects. That would certainly cause the battery to go up too.
June 11, 2017 at 11:36 am #8938I just think think he went in to fast, you can’t be braking and turning in a super car, or turning and accelerating for that matter. Given its all wheal drive, (not 4×4), it will be prone to understeer, so you can’t trail break,like you can in a rear wheal drive car. You would break in a straight line, turn in late, and power out weary.
A FWD is the same, but you can power out as early, wheaseca RWD, break later and you can turn in earlier, meet the apex earlier, but you have to wait to power out.
An electric car with regeneration and AWD, I have no idea.
More likely not having the gear box motion to balance the car and to aggressively slow the car, just caught him out.
Or depending on how aggressive the break regen is, he may of been expecting extra help from the regen, and just went in 10 yards to far, or as mentioned above, the regeneration just didn’t materialise. That’s what it looks like to me.
I know in F1 once the batteries are full, the regeneration just stops. Or did on the early CERS cars. Though this shouldn’t happen on a full EV. Given it would never be full.
Most of these electric cars in normal driving you will rarely need the breaks, as the battery regeneration effect slows the car really fast, it’s a strange sensation. Most will turn it to its lowest setting. So I’d imagine if your racing you have to factor the regeneration effect into your breaking point. But in theory you would want it set to it highest most aggressive setting, to act as a faux, but extreme, engine breaking.
Given this was a timed event, I reckon it’s most likely he just pushed limits.
Too brave for his ability.
Though these cars, especially that one, is fast, like no other, match that with little noise, and I’d imagine it would be a hard thing to drive one fast. as judging your own speed in near silence would be hard. Judging when to slow even harder.

You can see the car trying to compensate for hammond being a clown.
I would knock hammonds teeth out for what he did.

Same reason that I became an Aircraft Tech, then did a Para course. I suffer vertigo at heights.
I was born with Ricketts, the runt of 3 lads, learned to run and eventually ran 3,000 and 5,000 metres as a distance runner. Because a PTI said I was the ‘wrong build’ for it. I beat him at 1.500 metres, 3,000 metres and cross country eventually. I also knocked out one brother and on another occasion, carried the eldest and biggest * home, drunk, on my shoulders. We little ‘uns have to try harder!

2 things not to be on the military is small or ginger. I’m not the latter, but boy do they get it rough. Our DL was ginger, and was still brutal to his kind.
June 12, 2017 at 4:38 pm #9004Good job then that NS ended when it did. One lad I was at school with was short, fat, ginger and badly coordinated. He used to play lock forward in rugby – tried hard but was b-useless at everything except downing pints and pies.
Sounds like he may have had a hard time if he had had to do NS!

I don’t think that car understeers or oversteers because of the torque vectoring, unless it’s selected otherwise in the settings. Torque vectoring will keep the car balanced and push you around a corner unless you go too fast for it to do anything. Which is what it looks like to me in that video. The car was already skidding in the “precorner” which to me indicates that he was going way too fast. Maybe that torque vectoring made him overconfident or maybe he just had a lapse of concentration and made a mistake.

But yes, if this has true torque vectoring, (instead of fuax break vectoring like most), it’s shouldn’t. But if you overcook the speed. No computer trickery will save you.
I still thing the regeneration, caught him out. He was probably leaning on it (relying on it) a little to much.
Either way, it’s good publicity for both parties.
