Forumite Points: 0Hotmail won’t accept my password, yet it’s the one I use?
April 21, 2017 at 12:11 am #6512I suspect it’s their end John. It’s happened several times over the last few months.
Generally takes a day or two to clear.

April 21, 2017 at 8:27 am #6521Maybe you have been pwned and someone has changed your password — it has been known to happen.
April 21, 2017 at 10:48 am #6523Are you trying to make his panic ed?
Probably an ms glitch. There mail was never great.
April 21, 2017 at 12:20 pm #6526April 21, 2017 at 1:53 pm #6535As I said earlier, it’s a problem with Hotmail. It happened with about four of my accounts one after the other. Took a couple of days on each account & the problem went away.

April 21, 2017 at 4:14 pm #6548No problems for me on Outlook/Hotmail today. In fact my only problem is that every day I am receiving Adult Dating Site emails, always Junked by Outlook and then blocked by me.
But that is nothing to the amount of Scandinavian Spam I get on Gmail. (Spamdinavian?):) That is all in some Norse language or other, might enjoy it if I could understand it. 😉 :yahoo: I have asked Google about blocking it, far too much of it, have to see what they make of it.
I linked my Gmail and Hotmail accounts some time ago.

I'm out.April 21, 2017 at 4:27 pm #6549If you and John use two step verification then I agree with your point Wasbit – probably a site problem.

Forumite Points: 0Thanks all, for the points.
Not sure what happened, in the end I changed the password.
Hotmail sent a security code to my mobile (I had to enter it) as it went to my mobile I hope that’s a security, you can change the way to receive the code but I think, then you have to enter words only you know (mommy’s maiden name)
Hopefully it’s not easy to hack?
It was hacked before and sent emails to an MM forumite.

Forumite Points: 0It’s happened again only days after changing the password.
Your account or password is incorrect. If you don’t remember your password, reset it now.
I went to ask Hotmail why, but changed my mind
All you have to do is fill out a simple TECHNICIAN HELP FORM and a technician will call you to help you out the next day. There is a service charge of £39.99 which you will have to pay to the technician after the issue has been resolved.
I give up

How are you trying to log in? That sounds a lot like a scam to me. If you haven’t already, run an antivirus and anti malware scan, just in case.

Forumite Points: 0I run regular but I will run again.
However it’s the same on the other rig, in Windows 10 also in Windows 7.
Often after a clean scan I backup, I will go to the beginning (first backup) and see

I forgot to say I got to hotmail.co.uk it brings up Sign In I fill in the email add. Press next, enter password and press next. as a rule it signs in, however I get the above message and doesn’t sign in. I reset the password the other day and it worked, it worked also in thunderbird. But now it’s stopped signing in?
I have tried on backup 1 (recovery) it was the same, I have tried on 4 different setups (Windows 7 & 10) it’s still the same so I doubt it is malware or Virus
April 26, 2017 at 12:58 am #6785Sounds like it’s just Hotmail being useless again then unfortunately 🙁

Tell me about it, no don’t bother I think I know.
April 26, 2017 at 4:51 pm #6802Humour me John – try to sign in via MSN.
See if you get the same errors.
Second – WHERE did you go to get Hotmail help, was this a result of Googling for sign-in help? A number of the Google links are just commercial organisations completely unconnected with M$.
April 26, 2017 at 5:37 pm #6803Your tech help is a scam, Ms don’t ask for money in these cases.
Strange it’s happening on two systems. My thirst thought would be a rouge ff/chrome pluggin redirecting you.
Im not sure how deep a browser plug in could go. I’d first try and login via edge/ie, but still the plug in may redirect that. But I’d defo try a different browser first.

It has been tried on MSN with the same results. As you go MSN uses the same login as Hotmail/outlookI did find the help from Google
Duke I have tried all browsers from FF – Edge I even have IE on 10 and tried that.
I again reset the password and all is fine (for now)
I had a scam phone call not long after, they knew my name, ok they can stab at a phone number but not my name, the mobile isn’t in my name?. Someone has sold my name and number and it may only be M$ that has them both?
Who knows, I won’t be resetting it again.
April 27, 2017 at 12:18 am #6815I’ve been moving everything away from Microsoft and Yahoo, since Yahoo had the massive breach (twice!), and Hotmail played the password game with me a year or two back. I use Yahoo for anything that looks like it’ll spam me now, and Hotmail for a handful of sites like this, just because a few people have my Hotmail address. It might be worth you doing the same John.
April 27, 2017 at 6:50 am #6816What he said.
