I find music tastes to be too personal to ever advise anyone, or for me to take much input from others either. I only ever says I find things I enjoyed in the past may bring back pleasant memories and that more modern things lack those associations.
My biggest error was to not buy some pristine copies of LPs that were on sale in a dusty store in the souk many years ago, they were unsold from a few years earlier and several were quite rare copies even then.
June 29, 2018 at 8:51 pm #22444Probably my rarest vinyl LP is an Elvis “Bootleg” album, still pristine, with tracks, most unfinished, which contain The King laughing loud and long, backing singers and band swearing and Elvis himself using the odd word. It has the much-heard “Are You Lonesome Tonight” laugh-in, but loads more than just that. It is a good quality reproduction, too: rumour has it that a Sound Engineer taped it into an adjoining empty studio, and smuggled it out. It is not recorded whether the engineer was caught, or which vinyl pressing shop made copies, but there are apparently very few copies left in existence of the one I own. (There are many versions of this on Fleabay and collector’s mags, but none match mine and all have rough to horrible reproduction) I must dig it out, photograph the sleeve and post it here.

I'm out.July 8, 2018 at 6:16 pm #22848Well I used some of my credit to buy a Monkees album, I had a very odd dream last night (I have them quite often, lack of deep sleep) where they sang at my wedding and funeral. ?
I reckon if they are nice enough to do that I should rediscover their music. ?

That is priceless Nolan! ? Cracked me up!

I'm out.July 8, 2018 at 6:52 pm #22852It was one of the nice ones Bob, some of them are truly terrifying. I’ve woken up in a state of terror and ran downstairs (not good with a ruined hip and other joint problems) thinking that people are going to kill me. Next day I could hardly move.
July 8, 2018 at 10:56 pm #22870I never remember any dreams I have, just wake with a feeling of either dread or happiness. I really wish I could recall the happy ones! When I was a very young kid, as soon as I could walk I began sleep walking. At 5 yo my parents, brothers and Police found me about half a mile away, walking up one of the hills out of the dale. I never woke apparently, they just put me back to bed and I slept to morning. Dad put a chair beside my bed, but I moved it and went again. After another year or so, it just stopped.
I probably never found what I was searching for.?

I'm out.July 9, 2018 at 12:10 am #22871Bob. I’m sure I’ve heard (may of been a Film or show) that psychopaths don’t dream. Cant recall of its fact of fiction.
July 10, 2018 at 4:07 pm #22958An old album but v good material is edie brickell and the new bohemians. Album: shooting rubber bands at the stars……

It’s fiction. Haven’t been psycopathic since just before a £76 fine for GBH in ’65. Lot of money in ’65, that cured my psychopathic tendencies.
Would have been jailed if I had not been in the Army, had a pet Lieutenant who defended me well. ??

I'm out.August 23, 2018 at 8:45 pm #25081Back for some advice about Hawkwind songs/ albums, still have a lump of Play Store credit.
Really like Silver Machine. Just want a nod in the right direction.

August 23, 2018 at 9:12 pm #25082I always liked their 3rd album – Doremi Fasol Latido
Never trust an atom - they make up everything !
August 23, 2018 at 10:08 pm #25084Doremi is the height of the old original Hawkwinds powers. Funnily enough I’ve been listening to In Search of Space a bit lately. That and Hall of the Mountain Grill are of that era. The epitome is the Space Ritual Live double album, the tour being paid for from the proceeds of Silver Machine. So my recommendation would be Space Ritual as you then get Sonic Attack as well as In Search of Space & Doremi songs.
There is also a compilation called Stasis: The U.A Years 1971-1975 which contains highlights of all those.

August 23, 2018 at 10:37 pm #25086Just been checking out my digital music collection (approx 110GB = 1600 albums) and the only Hawkwind I still have is the 1977 “Quark Strangeness And Charm” album, which I can’t ever remember getting !!
Never trust an atom - they make up everything !
August 23, 2018 at 11:44 pm #25089I’ve got all the important stuff. There’s a lot of crap out there as they never banned taping, indeed they did a lot themselves.
New album is out 14th September. They will be in Bath in 24th November with a full orchestra – yikes!
August 24, 2018 at 12:20 am #25090Pink Floyd the Wall is great and Queens one night at the opera is too. Thought I’d get green greatest hits, or trh platinum remaster album that has over 50 songs, a good 35 songs a very good, and 20 excellent and 10 works of genius.
Also anything by oasis is usally good. It’s taken me to 40 to reconnect with some of my younger music. I’ve been years away from it. But been battering it all week.
Though my cheap podcast/audio book ear buds don’t half show there (lesser) quality when I break queen out.
August 24, 2018 at 2:27 am #25092The only music that matters tonight is Golden Earring – Radar Love 😀 It’s the unofficial motorbike rally anthem*, and I’ve just finished rebuilding the bike at 2:30 AM ready for a rally tomorrow morning 😀

*Every rock cover band in the world seems to play it at biker rallies ?
August 24, 2018 at 8:41 am #25105Thanks all, especially Dave, just got Space Ritual.
Now to download and get in the micro sd for the car. Have to wait in for some parcels so I’ll report back once I’ve had a proper listen.
August 24, 2018 at 2:39 pm #25113Now had a listen and I’m liking it, it’s barking mad. Sometimes I think I’m listening to a special effects record from the likes of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop or an old episode of Flash Gordon, others it sounds like a pub house band. ?
The concerts must be an endurance event for the fans, let alone the band members. I’ve no idea if I’ve listened to 3 songs or 12.
Don’t suppose it matters if you’re off your head on lsd or something like that. ?
August 24, 2018 at 6:56 pm #25119Musical prowess was never the point ? A lot of the punks, John Lydon especially, cited Hawkwind as an influence. You didn’t have to be a Rick Wakeman with a musical degree to do something meaningful. Get up there and have a go and if people don’t like it that’s their problem.
The musicality and especially the lyrics took a step upwards in the Charisma years but they lost some of the things that made Hawkwind Hawkwind. They still do a fantastic stage show.
August 24, 2018 at 7:02 pm #25120I wasn’t having a go Dave, it just blew my mind how bonkers it was. I’m honestly enjoying it.
It’s such a change from anything I’ve listened to before, some of the songs are spookily atmospheric, it seems like they are in space.
