Bob, quite correct, The Newstead I referred to is off the Trentham / longton road.
I recall now being confused when you previously mentioned a lord Newstead, as it meant nothing to me. There is a large Newstead estate to the Eastern side of the aforementioned road, with an old sewerage works behind, then the Wedgwood factory at Barlaston, my birth village. The tile bank, VERY long since gone, was on the Western side of said road.
But then, pottery manufacture, probably tile manufacture, coal mining and likely engineering, all big trades of the area, are just memories for most people now.
