Ars has the details. All I can say is WOW – wish I was young enough to go and work there!

This is still a fairly carp area of London even if it is a zillion percent better than it was last century. Camden Council would be foolish to turn down this boost to the local economy. However the big gains will be made by any home owners or leaseholders near the parks to the north, as the fitness yuppies will find them irresistible despite the huge dents they will make in their income.

To me that would say: Who gives two hoots to brexit, we are bringing this to the UK. And if that’s the case who is going to turn that down at the top? They would have to be mad. I can not bide google but I do like the idea very much indeed.

Shame it’s London though. In my own opinion to much money already goes into that place and other parts of the country need the boost localy more than London.

All the coders are in London and Brighton Lee, we don’t get a sniff in up here.

Tho if Google moved to Manchester, I’m sure the coders would follow.

I’m not brexit has any effect on Googles plans, then have so much info structure in the uk they need a proper presents. After all the uk had 2 of the 13 (others in USA) of the top leave root name servers, which holds up the Internet (I’m some way), so it makes sense for them to be here.

Also this predate brexit, and even brexit talks. These pictures was shown on twit about 3 years in the drawing stages.

Google were planning this long before Brexit. Corporate Yanks above all like London for its proximity to the politicians. Big corporations value lobbying, and lobbying from head office (not rational I know). Next in their pecking order are the International Airports and the City of London/Advertising Industry etc. Imo only OxBridge, Manchester or Birmingham could pull together an opposing bid but they would not tick every box.

I agree the North needs more big businesses, especially the ones built around the ‘intellectual’ end as these are where London makes its money, which in turn attracts others etc. Unfortunately this really requires twisting company’s arms with huge financial incentives such as those of the EU’s Regional Development Schemes but unfortunately our Civil Service’s heart never seemed to be in it the way the Irish, French, Italians and Germans have used/abused the scheme. Maybe Brexit will make the Government look more to the North but I doubt it unless we get Federalisation and completely break up the UK.

I wouldn’t think Brexit would make any difference. What tax they pay from their EMEA region is in Ireland so we’ll not see any dosh anyway. It’ll be as Ed says, access to lobbying and a pool of talent.

My son graduates this year from his Computing & Networking course and all the jobs are in the South East. He was on the shortlist for a graduate position at Meraki but they have decided not to have a graduate scheme until things settle down Brexit wise (customers aren’t spending because they’re waiting to see what happens too). I suspect he’ll end up abroad as will my other two kids.

This goes back to almost five years. I used to work at Kings Cross – in fact, I worked for the firm that was the first to move into the new offices at Kings Cross. The Google development office was beneath ours and they went through a number of iterations. We obviously tried to get in with them at the time as Mechanical and Electrical engineers but I don’t know how that worked out.

Now I’m in Manchester so it doesn’t matter ?

I hope you are happy in Manchester Drezha.

As a ‘Soft Southerner’ I like going to Manchester – it would be a perfect location with a dash more Global Warming to offset the b-awful cold wet winter weather.

Just so I do not upset Lee I’ll add that York/Sheffield/Leeds are nice as well except that the weather has always been even worse and straight from Norway during my visits. Global Warming would be a definite benefit!

This place isn’t far from me, very close to the city centre and even closer to the Principality Stadium (Millennium Stadium) which will be chaos today. Last time I went past, a fortnight ago, there was about 2 million worth of cars outside.

They’ve hosted some events sponsored/supported by Google in the past and I’m sure there will be more.
