I’d expect Google Play Music to be phased out now. It’s not surprising that it doesn’t get used though. For me at least, it refused to play my local music, and would constantly try to stream, no matter what settings I used.

I don’t use it much at all, and don’t have music streaming, but Google Music Play works its way through my music library – just checked Storage and GMP shows 2.4Gb of music and audio. Music folder on my PC is 10Gb+ don’t know what I rationed onto the G5. I’ve got loads of space on the 64Gb memory card, ( only 2.6Gb used  – half apps and half ‘other’ ) but it all seems to be on internal phone storage. ( 1.6Gb spare out of 16Gb. )

Use Google play music in the home/car, and really like it. However I use Spotify in the pub, and it just works well there. I have an old 1pad mini, that runs it, and my locals use it a a juke box untill 6pm min-Fri. Then they get kicked to the actual juke box as it gets to busy then.

I’d drop Google music if I wasn’t so invested in the goog universe. Plus my kids like YouTube music, as does the Google home hub. And I like YouTube premium. So play music/yt music come bundled with all them.

However if i was starting a fresh, I’d go Spotify premium.
