Had this notice from Google today.
As it says in the title, no more automatic sync of photos. Bummer, this is how I backup my Google Photos to my NAS.
AFAIK, apart from a manual download, there is no other way of doing this so you are trusting Google with your photos forever.
Time to install Synology DS Photo on all my devices. It works very much like Google Photos but you are in control.
June 13, 2019 at 10:05 am #34101Tbh I’ve never turn drive sync on. I don’t my drive photos (usally pislcs of pds or receipts) prpulating my photo stream.
Keep work on g drive and Peronal on g pics. So I won’t miss this feature, I’d not of noticed if you hadn’t of highlighted it.
June 13, 2019 at 12:30 pm #34106Haven’t had issues with DS Photo previously, but I did switch to Photosync a while back, because it can file them in yearly/monthly folders automatically.

June 13, 2019 at 12:59 pm #34107I gave up on syncing photos when Picassa was discontinued. All my photos are stored on my data drive in a folder called Fotos and backed up manually to a USB drive. I can only access my pictures from devices on my network but at least they stay put and in the order I put them.
June 13, 2019 at 5:40 pm #34115I haven’t noticed this and my Google Drive sync is still working with Google Photos, done that this morning. However, I don’t keep many of the Google Photos I take. Those that I want kept, I transfer to the My Pictures library on the PC. They are then part of a regular backup plan to the NAS and External Hdd.
But thanks for the Heads Up Dave: reminded me that I have pics that need moving, then deleting from Google Photos. New phone takes “bursts” of anything up to 10 photos if my arthritic fingers don’t move fast enough. It’s a pain to remove the ones I don’t want. Still learning the Xperia.
