Watching the Cure on ketchup, I mean catch up iplayer. The presenters before the Cure came on stage was Jo Whiley who rocked with glamour and the other girl looked like she got dressed in the dark.
Anyway, the cure= Great.
July 1, 2019 at 7:55 pm #34610The Cure were fantastic. I’m looking into going next time as a volunteer.
July 2, 2019 at 6:17 pm #34631Thanks for that – just downloaded it – been away for a week. Saw the Cure live around 1981 – not really my main interest at the time but they were very good back then. Look forward to seeing this set. Not sure he should still have all the slap on though – or maybe he should!.
July 2, 2019 at 7:21 pm #34635My wife is usually the one to watch the Glasto broadcasts but this year commented that she was very disappointed. On Saturday I sat through part of the performance by the Killers; though they changed the title of their song it appeared to always be the same one. I went for a bath, and they were still on the same song when I returned, though they had changed its name several more times and the light had changed as darkness fell, so it was not on a loop tape.
July 2, 2019 at 8:17 pm #34639Richard I’m with you on 99% of it but at 53 (me) it SHOULD be 🙂 I grew up with my mum playing Elvis which I loved and still do but when she heard the Clash/Pistols/Specials/Jam/Madness etc she would shake her head in disbelief. We’re not meant to get it……Its a young man’s game
July 2, 2019 at 10:24 pm #34641That was the point of punk, your parents were liking the music you were listening to. Something had to be done. Plus there was the old Maggie Thatcher, CND and anti-nazi league stuff going on. Stonehenge and the other free festivals. It’s all a bit boring now compared to then and expensive!
I did see the Cure back in the day but saw more of Robert Smith playing for Souixsie and the Banshees.
July 3, 2019 at 11:17 am #34655Hadn’t realised he played with them – even though I would almost have seen them with him in the lineup! I know what you mean about Punk, but it actually started under Callaghan’s labour government as did 2-Tone. Maggie didn’t come in till 79…..the sentiment carried on though and I remember the Red Wedge tour in the mid 80s.
July 3, 2019 at 11:24 am #34656Yeah. Souixsie and the Banshees. They did some weird misc like peekaboo.
Maybe next year we will see Dave on the TV doing the rounds.
July 3, 2019 at 8:36 pm #34658This is the only place I’ve heard the cure not get panned for their performance. I didn’t see a moment of the weekend, but haven’t heard many good reviews of any of the classic acts.
July 3, 2019 at 8:43 pm #34659Sorry, yes I didn’t mean to say Maggie was the cause of punk. More it was another interesting thing going on at the time with Ben Elton, Spitting Image, etc doing the Maggie piss taking and public marches and events for CND (Glastonbury being the big one) and the anti-nazi league etc. We used to have chartered trains going to London from Bristol.
You just don’t seem to see that sort of thing nowadays and festivals are much better organised and monetised. I don’t think the week long anarchy of Stonehenge would be possible any more.

The police are so short of resources it probably would be possible provided it was well organised.
July 4, 2019 at 10:02 am #34664The local police were fine, but they bussed in nutters from the Met in later years. The locals coppers used to warn us about coming up against them.
It all culminated in the Battle of the Beanfield in 1985 using tactics honed in the miners strike. Thankfully I wasn’t involved in that.
