After chewing on the fat after a few beers I have drawn the conclusion that its completely pointless gaming above a resolution of 1080p. :yahoo: B-)
December 9, 2020 at 1:41 pm #64457Have to say I agree. I’ve yet to meet anyone that does.
December 9, 2020 at 3:16 pm #64461The new M$ flight, aerial dogfight and ‘sniping’ games may be exceptions. i.e something where the extra resolution gives the player an edge. What I find I do like is the extra colour gamut of 4K.
December 9, 2020 at 6:55 pm #64465Lol. You did that on purpose.
Flight Sim is a prime example of why to stick with 1080p.
Why.
The cost of a: 4k screen
The cost of a competent GPU.
Ray tracing is gonna be rammed down our throats reel soon despite rasterization being almost as good. A fully ray traced 1080p screen will require 2 million ray traced lines. That GPU does not exist yet and a 4K screen requires well over 30 Million.
So 1080p is where I am at for some time to come and cost effective oled HDR will come to 1080p first.
December 9, 2020 at 8:31 pm #64469You cheated by talking ray-tracing.
As this PC Gamer screen clip shows it is very moot whether ray tracing adds enough over raster tech, to justify its use. 4K and raster is fairly workable, 4K and ray tracing is as you say nearly impossible today.
December 9, 2020 at 9:55 pm #64471I got myself a 4K screen over Black Friday. And then promptly run it at 1920×1080 (scaled!). It makes a difference during the day when working, but games I drop back down to 1080p.
On the Minecraft demo’s, ray tracing looked awesome. But I don’t play Minecraft and I don’t have an RTX card so it’s a moot point.
Ignoring the screen resolution, it’s VR that I want to have a go with. I feel that would be great. I’ve got Star Wars Squadrons and I’d love to see VR in that.

December 10, 2020 at 6:28 pm #64479I see the reviews are coming in for Cyberpunk2077 and its breaking records.
I will wait for the price to drop a lot before I buy it giving plenty of time for it to be patched up and maybe some free DLC.
December 10, 2020 at 7:18 pm #64484maybe some free DLC.
It might be 2077 before that happens, considering how long it took them to release it initially 😉
But I know what you mean – I finally purchased Fallout 76 a week or two ago for £10 when it was in the Steam sale. Played Fallout 4 for hours, so I’ll see how FO76 goes.

December 10, 2020 at 7:39 pm #64487Yeah, I got me Metro Exodus from CD keys bargain bucket. Terrific game. Its Metro meets Farcry 2.

Although great as a game, I found the ‘greyness’ of it extremely depressing, and longed for some colour to appear. As a result I have put it aside for now, hoping that eventually we will get out of the current depressing rounds of a half-baked Brexit(definitely NOT ‘oven ready’ ), and Covid.
December 11, 2020 at 4:40 pm #64505Yeah, its all a bit rough.
I am getting CBA with everything and with a little attitude. I always thought that I did not bite but now I’m not so sure.
Growl.
Thank goodness for escapism gaming. :yahoo:
December 12, 2020 at 2:15 am #64528I have 2 24* 1080p screens, that I’m not moving from. Especially as I they will now be viewed from a good 6 foot. So they look great anyway. And I don’t need cutting edge kit to push the power.
