      For years I have used Foxit (FREE) as my PDF reader of choice but it never seemed to allow for editing which was perhaps understandable as it was free.  However this past week I have received a number of PDF documents that required the input of data (export documentation since you ask).  To my surprise the first one allowed me to enter the required info.  The next one did not. So it was a question of print-update- scan-save as PDF.

      What I cannot understand is why some PDFs allowed me to update whilst others did not. I spent several hours trying different methods of operation but whilst some met with success, non were repeatable.

      However I am hooked, even though I shall probably never need to do this again. Does anyone know of a FREE PDF programme which allows me to enter info as in form completion?

        PDF Shaper Free gives you loads of options to play with PDFs

        Latest version 8.1 added “display options to PDF viewer (form filling, anti-aliasing etc.)”

        Otherwise LibreOffice is worth considering if you want to just edit the text in a PDF file.

              Hi Boris

              Some suggestions there. Thanks. Tried PDFEscape but appears to be a purchase  deal. Also tried PDFExchange which is free but only partially suitable.  Did not know that LibreOffice might work.  I will try that.  Thanks for your efforts.

                The first one sounds like it was a PDF form and therefore text input was enabled by the creator. We have a couple of PDF’s like that for our cadets (a training record book), but most we get sent are purely “static” PDF’s that don’t allow text input.

                We use PDF Xchange Editor at work – there’s a free version and a paid for. I can’t recall the limitations of the free one but I think it’s relatively generous, though we are getting some Bluebeam licenses, though that’s an entirely different kettle of fish.
