A request not long back, I see is sorted nice one Lee.
What you might ask, this was ok on the old site, lost on the new, now back.
While browsing threads before logging in and you find something to reply to, after login you’re still on the thread (to reply) instead of redirecting to main page and needing to find the thread again.
Cheers
JohnJuly 28, 2018 at 10:01 pm #23712Can I ask Forumites to please stop asking for rain? Around here, precipitation has been off and on constant since yesterday. We had hours of thunderstorms and several power cuts yesterday evening and during the night. First power cut happened just after dinner began to cook. Naturally I blamed you Rainmakers and my SWMBO is not at all happy with you guys.
My water butts are now chock full and the guttering is overflowing and it’s all your fault! ?

I'm out.July 29, 2018 at 7:30 am #23746The rain was predictable. Ask any school child; brilliant weather always ends at the start of the school holiday. The old early August Bank Holiday was almost as good as doing a rain dance!
July 29, 2018 at 8:12 am #23749More due here today – Mother Nature’s way of avoiding a hosepipe ban!!

July 29, 2018 at 9:57 am #23756Very similar here – if a tad warmer and sunnier, but then we are closer to the Equator than you Northern lot!!??

July 29, 2018 at 10:25 am #23758The biggest problem round here is the “atmosphere”!!! Bl**dy farmers are muck-spreading and have been for the last week or two?? it can get eye-watering!!
The other problem we get is round-about related. The seaweed comes in onto the beach and stays there, hot weather follows, stinking beaches follow!!
According to an older friend that has been resident here for decades the farmers used to go on the beach, collect it and add it to the fields at the same time. Some bright twonk at the council thought they could charge them for the privelege, so the farmers stopped collecting it. Fast forward to current times where the Council now has the duty to remove it from the beaches and has to bear the cost or pay contractors!!!! You couldn’t make it up!!
July 29, 2018 at 10:29 am #23759While this is still partialy the FORUMITE MAINTENANCE thread people will notice that I have done something I have been meaning to do for a while. That is that the opening topic thread will be allways at the top no matter what page you are on in a thread.

July 29, 2018 at 10:44 am #23761I have also added font’s selection which may be a bad idea but we’ll see.

July 29, 2018 at 10:50 am #23762If that was to try and keep people focussed on the Topic at hand, you might find that it makes little difference to the meandering flow of the Topic!! We are only human after all!!??
Looked for a whistle, or a tongue-in-cheek emoji but failed☹.
Edited for font effect.
July 29, 2018 at 10:54 am #23763No, That had not crossed my mind. Just seen it else were and wanted one. But’s it’s handy if you visit a thread late on in it’s life. ?

July 29, 2018 at 10:56 am #23765I just tried to edit my last post into a new font – it was fine in the box, but it reverted back on Submit!!
July 29, 2018 at 10:59 am #23766Strange, well I’ll remove it then if it’s not working.

July 29, 2018 at 12:00 pm #23771I’m not sure of the font selection (size yes, font maybe not) as I think you will need a total ban on Wingdings. As a ‘nice to have’ an easy to use strikethrough would pander to my sense of sarcasm.
July 29, 2018 at 2:49 pm #23778July 29, 2018 at 2:49 pm #23779No thumbs showing, thanks guys. We also have these problems JayCeeDee:
” The biggest problem round here is the “atmosphere”!!! Bl**dy farmers are muck-spreading and have been for the last week or two?? it can get eye-watering!!

If it’s really, really bad, the smell that is more than a stink and grabs the back of your throat, it’s either Pig muck or has Pig muck in the mix.
During the last few days of storms and heavy rain, a very strong onshore breeze has acted with high incoming tides to batter our beaches and send sand up over the Coastal Path. Seaweed is at the fringes of the tide as it turns, but most of the weed seems to go out again. Another problem is jelly fish, which sink into the sand and the big ones can sting if trodden upon. This is exacerbated on Lincolnshire beaches by the annual “Renourishment” I have spoken about before: a Netherlands company is employed to dredge the seabed farther out, pumping sand, gravel and whatever else is on the seabed, up onto the beach in one big heap, then spread it along the beach in a long ridge. This is then colonised by Marram Grass*, forming dunes. The result is that the seawall I remember from 20 years ago, is now buried beneath all of this, and a seawall is now redundant. Not only that, but the high ridges and dunes are a better tidal flooding defence, as the sea runs back through the porous sand and into the sea again. It’s a much better coastal defence than concrete walls. And the Dutch are coastal defence experts, of course.
Places like Mablethorpe and Skegness are vulnerable: large parts of our coastal towns and villages are either slightly below sea level, or only just above it. Hence the deadly floods of 1953. The renourishment has dealt with this threat well.
The rain has now decreased to the point of very light drizzle. Tomorrow, after my Grimsby hospital bloods and clinic visit, I will have to clean out the gutter that feeds one of my water butts, which is not filling as it should. I suspect that the trap valve is full of moss, thanks to those $$$***!!!! birds that scatter the stuff about, looking for insects and eggs.
