I have been looking at my finances and trying my best to get things in order for a less stressfull life 🙂 .

I also want to say that over the past 1 year I have had a hell of a lot of help from forumites which I really appriciate.

None the less I need to cut down on costs. For what it costs in time and money on forumite could pay for the cat’s Dinners and Treats for a month. I am not going to say what the overall cost of forumite is but I do not like billing day 🙂

At the moment there is 3-4 regular donations from 3-4 members P/M which is very much appriciated as these donations are helping me carry the site & keep it running and maintained and some what stable.

At the moment I do not earn from any other third parties such as google ad’s or Amazon and so on but I will very shortly put a couple of links in the sig section of my forum posts just in the hope that passing trafic may click on them. However this is just wishfull thinking in the long run.

I am not going to shut the site down ever so I am left with 2 options.

1. Move it to much cheaper servers. That will be the one’s that forumite started out on. God awfull slow and may crash with high mysql usage from time to time. If I do this I will be ignoring anyone who complains about errors and crashes.
2. As mentioned a few years back make it subscription based rather than donation based which means a monthly or yearly payment to post. I’ll work out the cost depending on the outcome.

I hope all understnad why I have to do one of the two and I appricate all the help over the past year that fellow forumites have given me. And there is only handfull of members that could keep trucking with one & other on social networks and so on if forumite was not arrround.

I am not trying to make a profit from donations/subscriptions. I am just trying to make it pay for it’s self.

So I believe the simple thing to do is put a poll above and let members decide.

P.s I can not think of any other options how ever if you think you have one then post below. However like a similar posts a few years back this time I will not put up with nasty posts and they will be deleated however I don’t believe any of the guilty party are here anymore.

Anyhow, nearly time to go and get my meds shortly to make me Jolly 🙂

Lee, although I have voted for a subscription base, I’m happy to go with the flow. I have no problem with adverts or paid product reviews if that is what it takes.

Thanks Ed for the suggestion but there just is not enough users for that to work. I could be wrong but who knows.

On further thought, for those who only post a question once in a blue moon I’ll create a smaller charge, one off cost.

For clarity subs + ads is ok with me. I would however prefer product sponsorship ads from companies that forumites are happy to use. e.g. Microdream etc. (For the record I would guess that companies like Microdream have had £1-2K as a result of personal forum recommendations, It may pay to drop them a line!)

Sadly my circumstances have changed drastically. Since late November 2019 and I am having a s–t 2020 so far. I hope things will change soon?

At this stage I can’t offer any suggestion on subs, other than better than slows n downs.

I’m OK with subs Lee, Forumite is more than just a website, it’s a friendly online social club, an advice centre and a source of help for more than just computing. I can understand that ads may not work with such a limited number of visitors. You have done well to get this far on a shoestring and we ought to appreciate that.
