Two problems, the first has happened before . If I open “Documents”, all displayed, folders first, in alphabetical order. If I wish to add an attachment to an email, folders listed first, some alphabetical but back to front, others seem newest at the end. I tried various things, but can not fix it.

If I use iplayer on this PC, my email is shown, with the password auto filled by op sys.

Yesterday I tried to open iplayer on a crappy tablet I have. I entered my email, and typed in the password as it is recorded in my little note book. Incorrect password is the response.

That suggests to me I may have entered it incorrectly when I registered it, but auto fill (which I allow on non-sensitive sites) has kept it ever since.

Of course I could simply re-register, but it would be better if I could simply see it on my PC. There is no “show password” as on some login pages.

Happy new year to you all, and YES, it is time for Boris to go. My original preference was for him to get in, but get booted out after 18 months.

      Les.

These days a lot of programmes are trying to be ‘useful’ by autosaving PW’s. Is it the op sys trying to auto fill or your browser??  iirc you can ‘see’ PW’s within the browser security settings – which one were you using??

Is there a ‘forgot password’ option, to get you sent a link to reset it??

If you click on the title tab at the top of the column it re-arranges the order for you, name ( alpha a-z /z-a ) date (last date modified/first date ) type ( files first or folders first ). Have you mis-clicked at some stage and rearranged them??

JCD, thanks for replies. Yes, browser not op sys. Firefox, and yes, it is quite different to what my little book says. I (thought) I had the same one but different for BBC, Ch 4 (F1 replays) and another for Motogp. I assume it was too short for BBC, so I must have created a suitable one then failed to write it down.

Regarding the folder and file listings, whilst setting the order works in the documents folder order (menu up top RHS), the view when opened for attachments is different, no menu present. I have searched a few times, but nothing has presented itself to fix the order. I have delved into system settings but achieved nothing there.

I have even considered doing a backup, wiping disc and reinstalling, but avoided it so far. I happened before and I think it was Dave who gave the answer.

Anyway, MAYBE my rubbish tablet will be able to put a picture on my deliberately  non- smart TV.

            Thanks, Les.

              wrt your password problem:

Sometimes it is your fault, but at other times the site changes what it thinks is required for a secure password and resets your old password. My original BBC password was very trivial as I could not see why it was needed, and the Beeb just reset it on me and then forced me into the 8+ mixed character set.

I now think rather than struggle I’d just do a password reset. e.g. link for BBC reset

You can usually change the folder view within the dialog box for the files being called up within the browser or email app. For example for this site, pretend to add an image to a post and then alter the file order at the top of the dialog box. I don’t think this reordering sticks but I’ve never tested it in that manner.

I read your posts twice, but struggled to really understand your issue, and maybe I have got the wrong end of the stick, so forgive me if my response is unhelpful!

Ed, my original PW was “BBCTV4me”, but I  they must have made me change it to something like “Iamalicenceholder2”.I tried getting the crap tablet to work with that today. Unfortunately it had a habit of submitting the login before I had finished, so it the locked the account. I went to my PC, logged out and tried to log back in. Account locked. Went through the procedure, and added another 2 at the end. OK. Logged out, went to the crap tablet, and managed to log in, so that is all OK.

Regarding the file order problem, I (think) I only see it w. hen I am adding an attachment to an email. I will attach a picture of the display.

I’m sorry but I cannot see anything wrong with your ‘list order’. The files and folders are arranged in a-z Alpha order. If you click at the top in the first column that will change to z-a Alpha order. If you click at the top in the ‘Type’ column it will resort the files by document type e.g. CSVs grouped together then JSON, PDF etc, they tend to be in whatever alpha order you set. Of course you only get this option in ‘List View’. Clicking in the column toggles the column from high to low to high depending on the sort criteria.

This link details this much more clearly than I.

I guess I still do not know exactly what is your concern.

                    I am not believing this.

You are correct, that list is correct. Once upon a time it was just like that, then it was NOT. I tried to make the link earlier, but it never (seemed) to come through (but it had) so I did it again, and it is now correct.I copied it but did not bother to look at it properly, because I “knew” it was wrong.

I have just done a dummy reply to an email I had this morning, and that is correct (this is a very common set of four attachments that I send).I then realised when I did my actual reply this morning, I did not have to search four out of 10 files, because they were now “easy to find”.

                    Basically, it has cured itself.

However, I assure you that you can not click on any of those headings and change the list order.

If however I open my documents from the desktop, then the full menu for the setting ARE there up top RH corner.

I feel a fool, but know that for once I am not one.

                    Les.
