I placed a printer on ebay (finishes tonight)

I have had a bid on it for 3 days, today the bidder contacted me.

      Hi
I am very sorry I have bid on a printer of yours but I overlooked the you do not deliver so can you please cancel my bid

      It clearly states Collection only.

Surely it’s up to the bidder to cancel bids, it will go against my reputation for me to cancel?

        Hi John,

Seems like he’s made a mistake – haven’t we all at sometime in our life. To preserve your reputation and to save giving him bad feedback, unless a better offer appears say 30mts before end of sale, can you not withdraw it from the sale, this might incur you in charges. In the end it comes down to hopefully two reasonable people coming to an amicable arrangement. You can argue it was his fault – it was – but that will still not get the printer sold. Can you not contact him and make this suggestion – forcing the matter will not help especially as the job of packing a printer (unless you still have the original box) is a nightmare and the costs of sending quite prohibitive.  If charges are incurred, as it was his mistake, would he compensate you for that – it would have to be a gentleman’s agreement though.

I cancelled an eBay order yesterday , I contacted the seller and they was really poilite and thanked me for letting them know. Saving shipping back and forth. The actually refunded me my money (via PayPal) before the emailed me to thank me.

People make mistakes, just thank him for his honesty.

Thanks for the advice dwynnehugh and Duke

I followed your advice and cancelled the bid, it wasn’t as bad, as I thought.

At least I won’t have ebay fees (suppose it works both ways)

Not been in this position before, so I wasn’t sure.

            Much appreciated.

Aye. There are usually no fees on a cancelled bid or sale.

Regarding negative feedback, only buyers can do that (and usually not if a cancellation has been agreed). Sellers can only leave positive feedback (or no feedback at all).

Not offering delivery will severely limit the price obtained and will put off even most fairly local buyers. A printer can be delivered for only around £7 (hint: don’t use Royal Mail or Parcelforce).

                Thanks Jason

It finished with no bids (as normal) no sale no fees, it will go to the tip.

It’s not the feedback given or received, by default ebay used to put canceled bids within your feedback,
not sure if they still do.

This printer was my sisters (sadly passed away) the price I would get for it isn’t worth a trip to the P/O.

I have never used any other postage system and wouldn’t know how to.

I lost faith in postage when ebay fees were introduced on postage. Ebay isn’t what it used to be, everybody wants a bargain so I gave them one.

I don’t really sell on ebay since the fees, I was asked by my brother in law, he’s not interested in how much it sells for.

My sisters computer is on ebay (that’s without postage) I offered to buy it, it fell on deaf ears. The computer finishes tomorrow no bids yet.

Sell it locally through Gumtree – you will not get much for it, but it will save you a trip to the tip!

Otherwise check for a freecycle arrangement, there will usually be someone who has in interest and being local they will usually collect rather than expecting you to post the item. I cleared out a freezer via them and there is no way that could be posted!

I sold a TV, DVDRW recorder, HiFi and several more bits and bobs on FB “Buy and Sell” groups. Posted in November, all gone by Christmas. These are local groups to each area, which FB picks up from your location, but you can extend the area. Look to the LH side for “Buy and Sell Groups.” These had been advertised on Gumtree and in local shops, no response. I always try FB B&S Groups first.

I used to buy via Facebook groups. I stopped doing it, as I found all too often that the items were faulty. It seemed to be a place for folks to offload junk with no comeback.

eBay sales are very slow this month. Not unusual for January. My sales have more than halved. I may have to get a proper job at this rate. 😉

Jason: I offered a demo of every item to be fully working or  fit for purpose, to those who came to view. Only one was not bothered, so I made 2 copies of a receipt and made him sign before paying for the Books I had for sale. I only sell on FB to local groups.

As I was filling out on gumtree, I thought does it work (it’s as well the ebay bidder pulled out)

After setting it up, It had flashing lights (maybe ink) so I put it in hold for now (further investigation required)

Maybe a good chance on freecycle.
