A friend has asked me to implement a download section for logged in users for him but I’m not totally sure of how WordPress works and need a few pointers?
I’m currently trying to get to grips with Lana Download Manager, do I also have to install Lana Shortcodes too?
What are Bootstrap Shortcodes?
When I want to upload a file, I click on “add new” which appears to create a webpage with a link to the file. Is that the right way to do it?i7 4790s / 8GB / 480GB SSD / GTX 980 / 34" UltraWide : i3 4170 / 8GB / 480GB SSD / GTX 770 / 24" Samsung : i3 4130 / 8GB / 500GB Spinner / GTX 1050 / 23" Acer : Q9550 / 8GB / 1TB Spinner / GTX 580 / 22" Acer : i7 720QM / 8GB / 1TB+2TB+500GB Spinners (server) : i5 4570 / 8GB / 60GB SSD / 1TB / GeForce 210 / 22" Dell It's getting warm in here!

July 11, 2018 at 6:40 pm #23009I have never used the download manager you mentioned but if you are not in a rush I’ll put some time aside this week and take a look.
A shortcode usually implements a feature of a plugin with in the content area of a page you create.
I can’t really go into detail at the moment as it’s england time. Forumite is full of shortcodes as it is wordpress.

July 11, 2018 at 6:43 pm #23011Ah, this seems to be more what I need …. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-downloadmanager/ … I think.
Still not sure what I’m doing?
Am I right in thinking that [download id=”1″] is converted to code by the server and inserted into the page?

July 11, 2018 at 6:45 pm #23012Thanks, don’t put any time in. I’m just getting to grips and chapping and changing my mind all the time. I’m trying to get an overview of how WP works because at the moment I’m still finding it difficult to navigate, let alone create something decent.

July 11, 2018 at 10:17 pm #23022I do but no idea about a download manager I’m afraid.
I’ve had to look up a slug but it says that it’s user friendly URL – https://www.wpbeginner.com/glossary/post-slug/

July 18, 2018 at 11:57 am #23240Me again …
I want to have a set of buttons on a page (form) that can be toggled for a search. When the buttons are selected, e.g. MUSIC and PDF submitting the form will generate a shortcode on the page like this [downloads tag=”music, pdf”]
WP would then convert the shortcode into the downloads table …Does it work like that or can you not generate shortcodes with php? I almost understand how WP works now but I’m not certain of the flow and the order in which teh pages are generated.

July 18, 2018 at 1:42 pm #23242Ah, I think I’m getting it. I’ve created a plugin to make it simple in the long run (which was very easy!) and that uses do_shortcode to effectively call another shortcode from php.
