Interestingly, my wife’s machine did not suffer the expired password issue when that updated. It appears to be another random artefact.

Booted my SWMBO’s laptop this morning, won’t accept her PIN. Had to use the Microsoft account password. Updated the same KB’s as mine, but added lots of driver updates. Nice.

My rarely used X220 is going through the update process now. Taking an age.

I forgot how slow the updates can be on Windoze, Chrome OS is as quick, if not quicker than an Android upgrade.

Discovered why the laptop would not accept the PIN: SWMBO confessed to forgetting that she had set up a new 6 digit PIN.

            Bugga.

This morning Windows told me that insider build 19041.21 was ready for my machine but when I tried to install it it said I had incompatible hardware “Standard duel channel IDE/ATA controller”. Not very helpful as my motherboard has controllers from Intel, Marvel, Jmicron and Gigabyte. Anyway it turned out to be the Jmicron eSATA controller that Windows didn’t like and as I don’t use eSATA I just disabled it in the BIOS and all was fine.

Took about 15min to install with 3 restarts. Haven’t had much time to play with it yet but the first thing I noticed was that the taskbar has changed from black to white, that will have to go 😁
