January 30, 2017 at 4:21 am #2962The cpu/gpu in that is about on par with the snapdragon 410 Audreno 306. I like to convert my cpu in to the equverlant snapdragon as I understand where I am with then.
That is 410/306 set up is that Motorola used in the Moto G3 2015/16, so not a bad set up.
The screen or not so sure about. I draw the line at about 4.8″ for 720p. At 5.5″ it will be “fuzzy” but ok.
Id personally pic a smaller phone or a better res display phone. Also I’d check out how much moto G3 are, and as they get decent support. I this will get non.
But over all it looks OK. I look at “blu” phones, they have good presence in the budget end, almost got my lad one for Xmas but went moto g4 in the end. Also look at “Honor”, they are Hauwai (or Xiomia)’s budget arm and do some great stuff.
January 30, 2017 at 4:27 am #2963I need a large phone for work. Dont play games or take much pictures. I wont buy moto and do like the overall looks. So if there are no major caveats with it i’ll be going with it I think. But ill sleep on it first

January 30, 2017 at 5:06 am #2966Interesting why wouldn’t you by a moto g? I personally think they was over priced, the origanal one was a Cracker, and the latest one, and also is, but that is about £160. The Moto g3 was about £160 but wasnt great. Not sure of its size either.
The had to step it up for the latest one, because of the fierse competition in the budget area atm, the 3 companies I mentioned above are killing it, and they aren’t the only ones. I love watching and buying at the budget end. Great thing about having a teenage boy, I get to buy about 3 £100 phones a year. Year on year, the Speen they are becoming great devices is amazing.
The tipping point was the origanal moto G (£99 and £120)followed that year by the 1+1 at £220. The swift carried the batton, as did the Moto E into 2015.
I love that end of the market as at the top end it’s rather boring, incremental steps. I think phones reached there tipping point the year of the sgs3/note2 and the htc one x. Like pc’s, they was more than good enough, the rest has just been done consumer greed. Which I’m part of the problem I’m well aware.
But I don’t think there is anything wrong with that device. Jason is the man in the know, so he may say different, so I’d wait on his input. He may know of somthing better for the cash.
January 30, 2017 at 5:40 am #2968I actually own that phone – got it for holiday last year, used it Dual Sim in Russia with UK (Three) SIM and Russian (Tele2) SIM – worked AOK and still does. Its very functional but nothing particularly flash about it. I’m a bit wary about ChiPhones with all you here about malware – but that aside I think it is great value (As are many of these). Build quality is decent, and mobile data and wifi performance decent. I could certainly use it as a day to day phone, but was very pleased to get my S5 back after holiday – different class but then it should be – for the money.
I’d get it from Amazon for a few bob more – if you don’t like it a doddle to return.
January 30, 2017 at 8:34 am #2974Moto is a Google company is it not, thats why I wont buy one just like I would not buy an apple device. Sadly I’ll have to put up with android still.
Its sounds up my street blacklion, it will do me a year or so if I look after a little bit better than my current one.

January 30, 2017 at 11:11 am #2979They are now not a patch on when they was briefly owned by Google.
I don’t know why you wouldn’t buy of Google but you would of lenovo, that is openly dodgy with consumer gear. And all the other chi phones, all the budget ones I mentioned, and the one you link to, are all insecure, and or rather are 1. not accountable to no one, and 2. Not alarge enough company to have power to not have malwars forced upon them.
At least apple, google, Samsung, Ms, are under constant scrutiny.
Also what’s up with buying android off Google ateast then you only have one company capable of looking at your phone, buying Chinese cheap homes, you add a second pair of eyes you have no control over.
In November, it came out a media teck chips uses in most of these cheap phones had backed in malware that was reporting all text and phone data back to china. That is what made me get the Moto G4 over the £40 cheaper chi phone I almost pulled the trigger on. Not cos I am bothered about China getting my texts, because I was buying as a gift, and I decided as I knew there was an issue, it wasn’t fair of me to force a known compromised issue on a 3rd party. My 15 in this case.
Apple also has its own privacy concerns at the moment, it pretends it has secirity first, and on device only data which is encrtyped, but it just come out that they are actually keeping all msg and I massage, and phone logs and face time for 2years, 18 months longer than us law states. Actually 2 years longer with some of the Data.
Thats why I like Google, it tells you upfront, if you want in, you we do this…. I but when you buy Chinese, you don’t get the option. You have to take Google’s offer, and or the phone is usless, and you have no idea what is lurking in the background. So your exposing your self more, to make some type of point.
A Google made (or controlled) device, is the most secure of all the devices.
Also all chi phones won’t get the monthly os se unity patch. Your lucky if samsung gives it you, never mind a small oem with no control over its chips.

January 30, 2017 at 11:20 am #2981I like my G4 better than the 1&1 (now with my daughter) and that’s down to the screen.
I don’t really miss NFC as I have a card that does that just as well.
The battery seems to last forever too.
January 30, 2017 at 12:09 pm #2983I have watched this exchange with interest, my own angle is slightly different. While the USA are closing or trying to close 2G, here 2G is seen as have a rather more charmed life due to the number of devices, not always phones using 2G. Rather it is 3G which is seen as being first for the early chop. I realise than many do not hold their phones for very long but some of us do use them for longer as they often offer things that are needed. If the threat to 3G is real enough and 2020 has been mooted as an one possible loss of service date, should people be urged to either stick with 2g voice only or whole hog devices and only buy 4G devices?
I have little or no personal interest in the so called security angle since I am highly unlikely to put any personal data on a phone. I have other aspects to consider but my elderly tool is showing increasing signs of age and I need to think about how to replace the device. I am more interested in long life and its ability to match my peculiar use profile than anything else, but I guess that usage creep might happen, hence my lurking over this thread.
Some CUBOT device are 3G and some 4G with only a small price difference, is it a price worth paying?
January 30, 2017 at 12:14 pm #2984It’s always worth having the most recent when the extra £ isn’t a huge factor. That applies to almost everything.
If you’re considering a chi-phone just check the bands it supports, not all of them support all UK network bands.
January 30, 2017 at 12:40 pm #2985PM, a good point about bands they appear not to be too open about what bands they cover. Wow they are big, not exactly shirt pocket size. Perhaps a shop visit is indicated after all.
January 30, 2017 at 1:05 pm #2986For me the appeal of Chi-Phones has eased off because of (a) cheaper, decent “local” alternatives and (b) aggro returning anything with a battery to HK or China.
The dual-sim feature is what makes it attractive as a holiday phone, and being on Amazon (Prime) means delivery and returns is a doddle if there is a need. Around the £100 mark they are reasonable value, but not the mega-bargains they were a couple of years ago. £100 gets you a lot of “proper” phone these days, whether new budget or 2nd hand “premium”.
January 30, 2017 at 1:25 pm #2990Well im just going to pop into the second hand phone shop on an off chance to see what they have in 10 mins but I do like the cubot.

January 30, 2017 at 1:28 pm #2991@RSB its not yawn it was a real question!
I don’t understand the logic to actively avoid a safer option! (Two brands from your comment) Unless I’m missing something, if I am please enlighten me. It’s how we learn.
why dismiss one cos you think it a Google phone, moto was a subsidiary of Google, briefly, but never had Google over site. It just allowed moto to design and sell Your phone at cost.
If you must get an android phone, you know you give it the same permissions (access) to Google who ever you buy it off right. By being 3rd party, your allowing aother layer of potential harm/spying/malware/etc.
I’m mot saying this brand is bad, the phone looks de end tbh. But I’m more interested in the I want by Google or Apple, why? I can understand if you said, I want by ios(apple) or Android, but you have decided on an android device, so why dismiss one over another, especially one that actually gives os seconds unity patches every month and os upgrades over one with no upgrade path or securty patches.
I not you don’t like long answers but a short one would be nice.
January 30, 2017 at 1:34 pm #2992The problem is you dont learn @sgb101 I choose not to like google, full stop, end off. You clearly have not learned after 7 long years I still do not want to talk android with you. You are an absolute nightmare to talk android with. So thats that :good: No offence :yahoo: I’ll buy you a pint and praise liverpool all you like.

@ricedg the G4 is a great phone, I thought it a little over priced, but once I got my minds on it it feels really premium. Nice size and slick. It probably is a little over priced. Bit the updates I like, it saddens me they don’t keep the os ad updated as they did thoughJanuary 30, 2017 at 1:37 pm #2995Infact, screw it. I’ll buy a windows phone, thats that sorted. :yahoo:
