I watched a very informative and eye opening video from Gamers Nexus with the: hairy, glib bloke who sounds British. Accompanied by one of NVIDIAs own engineers who helped develop the latest Air cooling solution for their latest GPU. I figure this air cooler puts the rest of the industry to shame and hopefully will lead to much more competent air coolers.

I think I would rather not put the heat out in the first place – that way my electricity bill will be lower!

That said, it was a very interesting video.It was very like chemical engineering in miniature.

I’ll admit I thought that they just used heat pipes to get from the hot end to the fan end, I did not realise that they were using condensing vapours to move the heat. They do however seem to be missing a trick in their fan design. Stacked fans would allow the same overall air flow but dramatically reduce the noise level. I guess that size/cost/complexity drove them away from that route.

The Eurofighter uses a more high-tech way of reducing fan noise by aerodynamic techniques.

“Fan noise is pressure fluctuations shed by the impeller. We cut these at source without affecting efficiency and without using costly silencers by designing aerodynamic inserts that fit inside the casing.”

I wouldn’t be surprised to see nVidia picking up on this as it does not increase the size of the setup.

On Holiday the other month (swanage) we took the ferry to the sandbanks and went to watch the airshow on the beach at Bournemouth. A visit at Wetherspoons before the show made for a cracking day.

Yeah energy consumption is going up big time for the GPU’s and some would say the CPU’s as well.

But if you have been keeping yer eye on things you may have noticed that you can now lower from 105 w to 65 w on the Rysen 7600x leading to a 5% performance hit. with a big drop in temps. You can also lower the power consumption in other ways a small amount and performance goes up by 2%. It seems also to be a thing with the other 7 series CPU’s but different.

Ironic under-powering could be the new thing. I would jump at it as apparently there is no performance hit for games.
