I’ve been trying out a new Android app called Too Good To Go.

      It’s epic.

The way it works is you sign up (free) and browse the offers in your area. Pay in the app and go and pick up your cheap scran.

It’s business with excess food selling it off cheap rather than bin it. Near me there are hotels regularly offering breakfast items for £2-£3, artisan bakers, offering stuff for £3-4, sandwich shops, big restaurant chains and more.

I’ve just got back from picking up a lump of grub from an artisan bakery, over £15 worth of stuff for £3.50. Most of it went to mum’s place it was a fair bit of sweet stuff which I don’t eat. I kept a big slab of focaccia bread with cheese and pepper and a cinnamon Chelsea bun (brushed the sugar off) and they were both amazing. They were worth more than £3.50 alone.

It’s a ‘luck of the draw’ deal but I was able to choose a loaf of bread from a selection so went for the organic wholemeal which is now in the freezer at mum’s.

Definitely going to check this out when I get back.

The charity I work with gets daily donations of this kind of stuff from M&S and others, I forget the scheme’s name now. It’s always good grub, even got the Mrs a bunch of flowers from the Mothers Day surplus ?

“Artisan” – won’t be of any use to me ?

We have no specialist butchers, bakers, fishmongers, greengrocers or the like within a 10 mile radius – only a small Tesco and a Co-op.

          The joys of small-town life.

Boris, there are all kinds of business on there. Install the app, register and see what’s near by. If nothing un-install it.

You’ve lost nothing but might gain a lot of cheap grub.

              Well, I tried it.

Dave will do well – tons of offers in Bristol.

Only one offer within 20 miles of me – and that is a good 30 minutes/10 miles away in Monmouth.
