The Skoda Yeti has removable rear seats, They’ve been around for a while so some should be available quite reasonable. If well looked after they just keep on going.
Still have a soft spot for them.
October 15, 2018 at 4:14 pm #27208There’s a *very* cheap Peugeot Quicksilver up for sale near me*, so I thought I’d run an insurance quote as if I’d just passed my test. Third party only was £1,572, TPF&T was £835, and fully comp was £673.
Insurance is baffling!
*I’m not buying it. It’s diesel with no MOT, and from the photos, the inside is soaking wet. The picture of the dash has mould everywhere
October 15, 2018 at 4:31 pm #27210Fully comp has been cheaper for a good while. I forgot about pugs, my son had a real scrapper of a 106 as his first car, and that was half trh price of my girl ka. Thou it was a quarter as fun as the ka. Ment to have similar HP but I think half of them escaped. Lol
Have you looked at Puntos, alot of the kids around my are have the last hen Shape, the sport come with alloys,so look quite nice (Especally in the electric blue) and has a bigger boot than the 106 and the ka. I’m assuming insurance is relative cheap, given the number of kids thst have them. (under 21s)
October 17, 2018 at 6:18 pm #27280The last few days have vividly illustrated why insurance for new drivers is a minefield. I know of two recently qualified young female drivers who were very pleased to get their full license. Both have ended up with their cars off the road, one in a ditch and though it would probably have been an insurance write off, since the oops happened on private land the car was privately recovered and repaired from its largely cosmetic damage. The other young lady was less well served, her car, a Toyota AYGO has been written off only about a month after she passed her test. Happily she appears fine but is now falling back on getting lifts to work. The change in the weather has left many of the roads damp and slippery all ready to catch out the unwary, the first young lady probably did the very wrong thing when her slide started as she reached for the brakes, as for the other one I have not wanted to ask her for details as I felt it would only have added to her upset.
October 17, 2018 at 6:58 pm #27285Sadly this is a regular occurence not far from me, big hospital with young nurses (of both sexes) and lanes being one of the quicker (marjonly) routes to get there. Big problem is a nasty corner, about 45 degrees, which is a right turn onto a busy road. It’s also on a nearly blind bend from the other direction.
Weekly minor crashes and maybe 6 weekly more serious ones.
Had a fright today, hit some diesel or oil on a damp road while accelerating out of a corner. I know it well, usually loads of grip even in the wet. Car headed straight on, ESP going nuts. Had to go old school and lift of the throttle, change down, yank the steering hard, pop the clutch and wheel spin out of it. I hate treating my car like that.
October 17, 2018 at 11:53 pm #27291I had a fright today too, driving into the 3 easy roundabout, the AA learner car in font of me, just panicked and stopped dead, in an acceptation zone I must of stopped a cm at most behind them.
Allcwas good, gif knows what spooked him, the was no other cars in sight. I do have a rule of never overtaking or giving a learner grief. I didn’t say anything ad didn’t want to add to their panic, but I did overtake this one ASAP.
Thr Toyota aygo can be speced with some of the nicest seat on the road. I’ve never priced them, but they would at least need to be a 2k minimum option extra. And that would make them well worth it, in anything other than a 6k car. They are really stunning. Quite bizarre on such an entry level car.
