A year ago a retired couple I know (but had lost contact with) moved to a new build (Persimmons). There were with TalkTalk and quite happy, but were told they could only have BT as a phone / bb provider. They duly handed over £65 a month. Yikes!

They got back in contact to see about a Ring doorbell type product and I said I though it was bollocks BT having a monopoly. We went to the comparison sites, no problem. This month the contract is up, off to USwitch and Sky for £25 a month. Sky jut phoned, can’t do it, BT have sole rights to the area.

How can that be? I can only think that Persimmons haven’t handed the estate over yet (the roads don’t look finished) and are on some sort of backhander from BT. Bt have said they will drop to £50 a month, very noble of them.

They don’t need a landline so we’re looking at a Three HomeFi box for £22 a month unlimited http://tinyurl.com/y8c58sc6 Three says coverage should be fine and I can check with my MiFi device. I’ll bet we can do better than their current Vodpahone mobile contracts too once we get the Three discounts.

Persimmons are the biggest bunch of scamming, back-hander giving scum builders. They use companies as fronts to disguise  the fact that they are doing the building work.

They tried the same thing on a then new estate near mum. They didn’t put down proper foundations, they didn’t fill in a ravine (maybe a bit of grand term, 70 odd feet deep) properly, they broke the brook that used to run through the village in a predicable manner-now it bursts through the road on a busy, narrow in some places hill.

BT was doing exactly the same thing to the residents, claiming that the estate was still private. A cousin of my mothers fella had a granddaughter living there at the time so I simply asked BT why the estate was still private if the council was going into it to collect recycling and waste. Amazingly the situation changed within about 4 weeks. I might have given OFCOM a heads up. ?

I was looking at that 3 deal too. Unfortunately I was looking at it with envy. 3’s 4G coverage at my flat is patchy but O2’s is rock solid so if 3’s coverage improves or O2 start offering unlimited data then its goodbye landline.

There is no coverage at my location and for about 9 miles down the A157, by any company. If JCD had not kindly given me the EE Brightbox, I would have not even 2g here: as it is, it actually gives me 4g. Apparently a new mast was applied for several years ago and no one seems to know what happened afterwards.

            I'm out.

Well finished it all off today, the biggest problem was the JVC TV that would only attach via WPS. Very naughty indeed. A £15 TP-Link TL-WA850RE N300 Universal Range Extender sorted that out (Ethernet cable to TV) with the advantage of getting a stronger signal outside to the Arlo Pro camera. BTW I set it up via Ethernet as Windows kept deciding to go to another WiFi SSID all on it’s own mid setup and the TPL Tether app couldn’t find it (may have been the same issue with Android WiFi).

Apple and Android, PCs, cameras and TVs all working a treat. 40mbps down and 10 up, right next to the device (Huawei E5573bs-322 4G ) which upstairs in the back bedroom (new build 3 bed link terrace). About 60% of that down by the TV but still way more than enough for Netfix and the Arlo Pro. They are happy and I am amazed as just how good this service is.
