I would rather that too many got a message like this rather than someone miss out. Happily I do not have any of them.

On the same line, if any one has Toys R Us vouchers it might be wise to use them tonight or early tomorrow as there is a chance that ‘not nice things’ might, I stress might happen after a meeting tomorrow. The UK chain is in a vulnerable state at the moment.

Yes I picked that up a couple of days ago Richard. I think Amazon, Argos et al, have gradually worn away their customer base. I have not visited a Toys ‘R ‘Us store since 21 yo and 19 yo grandbrats were small. Last time I did, the Lincoln store was not helped by a really snooty, know-all sales pillock person. I wanted a V-Tech ‘laptop’ for both of them. He tried to sell me the most expensive one, way above their ages. I finally bought them one each in a city centre local store.

Having said that, retail forces strike again: lots of jobs at risk. Probably some vulture Venture Capitalist will buy the wreckage and strip the bones.

The big Toys R Us near the Cardiff White Water, Cardiff International Pool and Ice Arena Wales has been earmarked for closure for a few weeks. The smaller one in town was meant to stay open. The big one is a nightmare. Went there once and never been again. Arrogant staff and a stupid layout.

The whole business model has been broken for decades IMO, it doesn’t work in the UK.

I cannot argue with the above sentiments, but getting stuck with their worth less vouchers is a cash loss. Retail is detail it used to be said, we have almost no UK staff who can ‘get’ retail and how being human can help a deal. Perhaps it was right to offer some commission after all, the problem as ever is which formula works best?

I have not been to a high street in years, high streets contain dusty shops which offer out of data stock, surly staff and nothing anyone with any mental faculties would wish to buy. Access is dire, pay a fortune to park waste fuel to get there and come home with empty heart, wallet and hands. Wow a real bargain – Not.

Come to Louth Richard, we have lots of ‘little’ shops which sell some really nice products. The problem is that the prices, especially in the clothing shops, are far from ‘little’. Ther are also currently more Charity shops than I have seen even in Grimsby (maybe 5x the size) The town is also going all out as a Market Town, to be a Food Town. As quickly as a shop closes, someone opens it as a cafe or restaurant. Thai, Indian, Spanish (2 of) Italian, Greek, Turkish and several older places serving British staples, that have been here since Boudicca lost her appetite. Pub food as well, although one place has had 5 different closures and New managements. A couple of Chips With Everything’s, rounds it off. And the best Fish ‘n ‘chip shop for miles.

Anything in the Clothes department for us, means a Grimsby trip. A good meal is the country restaurant, on the A157 Mablethorpe road* where my granddaughter works. Her BF is moving her down to South Lincs: Market Deeping, which is too far to go for a meal. She will not be gone for long, before her brother has her (larger) room. She seems to think that she can move out and keep the room. There may be trouble ahead….

*Waggon and Horses, South Reston. Great food, always packed.

The US and AUS (iirc) toysRus hit the ropes about a year ago. The UK arm said some job losses and closers where coming last month, let’s hope it at least see Xmas though, and doesn’t spoil any little’uns Xmas day.

I sure won’t be buying off them online. Hated the shop anyway. The clone shop Smythes is even worse, with a shocked web store too.

Toys R Us UK has a pension problem and other issues. The Pension Protection Fund want more money than Toys R Us has available. The limited store closures were intended to allow the remaining stores to trade and possibly have a future. However, it requires enough stake holders to agree and as a big stake holder the PPF is holding out, they might be hoping for a Christmas bonus. However getting cash out of an empty account could be more challenging than blood from stones. If the vote goes badly the Toys R Us roof might cave in very quickly.

I do agree with the adverse comments about Toys R Us and its mix of school kids and switched off pensioner staff when I last visited them. It was in the previous century, date uncertain. Maybe the kids have moved on and their switched off pensioners need new batteries?

I would not wish anything near the cats litter tray after there diet over Christmas so far. One of them was ever so tempted by my Bailey’s while my back was turned and I just caught her licking her lips intensely. ?

Until we had our first cat, I thought dog farts were bad. Never noticed anything until “The Lodger” ate something that obviously did not like to be eaten. It even made our son feel sick, and his diet then was all Doner kebabs, chips, crisps, fryups and Stella. LOTS of Stella. Come to think of it, The Lodger lived on his lap most of the time. She must have recognised something in him.?
