Just heard from Dianne that Bob passed away on Friday.

I have been communicating with him on and off via FB and he was his old self, no clue the end was that close. His last post (to prove the point).

      Scotland were the better team
      England were poor.
Now stop booing, get over it and support England in the next game.
At 76, I have seen worse England displays.

A shame he didn’t get to see Saturday’s game, I hope he got to see us beat Germany.

She had a special request that I let Lee know and I said that I would let all his computer buddies know too.

I do have contact details if anyone needs it, no idea on funeral arrangements etc. but will pass on if I hear anything.

Sad, but inevitable. Bob kept a keen interest in life and  was a fighter right up to the end.

He will be missed. I will certainly miss all his anecdotes concerning his life from childhood, through the Army and into his latter years with his beloved SWMBO and grandson.

As a number of physicists postulate a cyclical universe(Expansion, then contraction et seq), maybe we will meet up next time around, and he can enlighten us with some new life stories!

        RIP Bob.

A smashing guy – one that you would have liked to have known in person. He would have lit up a group/room in person the same way he enthralled with his stories on here.

He was – and should be – proud of his achievements and his family. They will miss him terribly.

            Gutted to hear the news.

I had a feeling all was not well though.

One of the good blokes and I’m honoured to have know him.

            Sleep well Bob.

When he announced this terminal stage a while  back, I told him he has to wait to see my “Birthday video”, a big one this time as it will be me emerging as an octogenarian. Silly bugger went two weeks early.

I had noticed he was quiet recently and wondered.

What with the long term absence of VFM (anybody hear anything?) the sparks have gone from here, and now no Bob to shout up.

I guess he is missed already. I don’t suppose my condolencies will reach the right people, but they are here nonetheless.

                Les. (who mostly lurks now).

They do reach the right people Les. I have been keeping Dianne up to date.

“Good morning. Thank you for the messages, it helps. Bob would be grateful for any donations to NSPCC or St Barnabus Hospice. I will be closing this phone number down in a few days. But if anyone would like my landline 01507 602914 then pass it on. Thank you.”

Just looked in for news of Bob.

I am very sorry to hear he has passed, we knew it was coming, but without knowing how soon. It should be some comfort to everyone that he kept his mind until the end, though it ended handing him no special benefit. At least he remained Bob and did not suffer the terrible decline of e.g. dementia.

RIP Bob, your passing leaves a hole in the lives of so many, but we must also remember that your life and living also enriched great numbers either by having known you or having known of you. You will be widely remembered.

I have spent a few days trying to think of what to say but I am still at a loss. I remember back in the MM days starting off on the wrong foot with him but it did not take long to get past that. I’ll certainly miss the jibes and digs we gave each other from across the borders and sadly I will get the last word on which is best “It’s Yorkshire Bob”. I spoke with him a few times on the phone and found him to be as genuine in real life as he was on here. I found he was one of the only ones who agreed with me on many subjects “Obviously not all”.

I am privileged to have known Bob and I know the forum will never be the same without him but I am also happy that there will always be a little of himself here.

R.I.P Bob, You’ll be missed a great deal.
