Black and Blue

Making the site Black, White and Grey would make my life a little easier and one sgb as already voted for it but before I go ahead, if others don’t like the idea I will not so just put below +1 for black and white below.

The black and white of ohbother is fine for a temporary fallback venue, but I prefer the current colour palette of blues with the green search bar. Having said that, I prefer the muted blues from before today. As stated, the current ones are a bit contrasty and in your face.

I’m fine either way, prefer the black, but the light blues are more than fine too.

Hoping you mean the banners rather than the whole page.

Black on white is by far the best for text.

This is what the ‘Latest Replies’ looks like. Much harder to read the ‘Black & Blue@ topic than those further down the list.

Wasbit, I agree with you, though the very pale blue on the blue or the white is not as clear as a darker blue on the white would be. I prefer the more contrasty arrangement, though I realise this is a very subjective topic. It may depend on eyesight, lighting and screen variables as to which works best for different people. I agree the green search bar with reversed out white is nice and clear. Straight black text of dead white background is a little over contrasty, course and cheap looking for most people.

I like the Submit button with its very clear change as you mouse over its face.

All said and done Lee has achieved wonders dealing with a sometimes grumpy load of _________s. You can fill in your own word in the space.

OK well I have tweaked it to a point I am happy with. I am going to be making a change that may upset some in the next few days so I thought I would let some forumites get the last word in here to balance it out first :yahoo:

Like others, I find lighter blues on white (or worse yellows on white) to be very tiring to read.

I like it as it is now, having viewed it on a 5.5″ phone, 8″ tablet and this 24″ monitor. The Blue contrast is fine IMO, it draws the eye, but it is subjective, as has been said. My eyesight is poor now, have to use 2x spec’s, for outdoor and reading.

Now is fine, but there is very little to differentiate a ‘link’ from the normal body font.

I think Ed means, after you have activated the link, the link then turns to the text colour and blends in to the main body of text.

Maybe set the used link colour to grey or something.

Though I have just noticed the forum page text colour is now black. I like it. Was it blue? I can’t remember lol.

 

Also just seen the blue boxes are back RO a softer blue  :good:

Light grey font and black background so it doesn’t hurt the eyes at night  🙂  Various shades of grey for the trimmings.

Tbh Lee, I think you have nailed it, it looks great as it is.

If I had one criticism, I’d say the icons for un/read forums are a little Err… Windows xp. If you was to modernise then it would be perfect on the looks front.

I was going to do away with the read/unread icon but it would mean dicking about with the colours in the index’s etc.. again and I have it now with that so yes I’ll find some modern ones.
