Yeh I was reading up on that BIOS setting. It seem to be common on mobo’s with an M2 slot because they may well be cofigured with no external drives. From what I can find it has failed to help anyone. The graphics card probably only draws PCIe power until later in the boot phase too.
Anyway have a good holiday ?
July 7, 2018 at 11:16 am #22762Food for though whilst you R away. 🙂 arf arf.
July 26, 2018 at 2:31 pm #23450It’s finally finished! CCL supplied and tested a EVGA 700 B1 and it’s booting and running well.
I’ve been stress testing it in the 28c ambient workshop for several hours using Heavy Load to apply 100% CPU and GPU load. Temperature goes from ambient to 56c extremely quickly then creeps slowly up to a max of 62c after 30 mins. With the Corsair Link software you can watch the pump and fan working harder with the fan maxing a 2,500 rpm and the pump 1,800 rpm. The motherboard temperatures hardly rise so the single case exhaust fan never exceeds 700 rpm.
It’s well worth the wait, this thing is ridiculously fast. I’ve gone from never going to build a PC without an SSD to without an NVMe M.2 x4 and drive to match. Well maybe not for an office machine, but certainly with an M2 drive and not a 2.5″
Off to Cheddar on Monday to install it.
July 27, 2018 at 8:24 am #23518Thought you was away Dave? Currently Sat outside a coffee shop in Nimes, it’s 9. 20 and 29 degrees! By 11pm,its time to hide and and a kip. Got up to 39 yesterday. I’ve forgot how hot hot gets! Forgot how tiring it is too.
I’m sure when I was younger the sun didnt do me in so much. Almost turned into a puddle touring the amphitheater yesterday. Fantastic city Btw. Off to Spain tomorrow…
July 27, 2018 at 8:48 am #23535Frankly we are not used to high temperatures for any length of time. It come in here wham and dumps us on the floor. If you live in warm places there is a build up before the high spots are reached. I well remember having to shut car windows in company cars which lacked A/C because at 45 degrees the air was burning my arm, yet we carried on and did what was needed 24 hours a day. Mind you there was a steady build up of heat from about February through to May when we usually had our highest temperatures. Then the humidity came up to about 99% and temperatures north of 38C degrees day and night through to about October. The humidity stayed high ranging from perhaps 95% as a low during the odd days right up about as far as it could go, day temperatures were usually lower than the May maximums but in the high 30sC to low~40sC. We simply got used to it then, – but not now.The rats used to come across from the Ministry of Health building to drink from the outside of my air-conditioned office windows as they would be covered in condensation. Sometimes we shivered at the cold of some buildings, they were only 30C…
I am very seriously considering getting some cooling for the bed room to cool and dry the air as the heat and humidity is driving may wife nuts with her chemo treatment. I might hire in a temporary unit for the next few weeks to help her through this challenging time.
July 29, 2018 at 11:32 am #23768Dave. Did you get a shot of the beast. So we can see all of the ram in situ etc? 🙂
