If you research why Facebook et al sank without trace, you will find that it probably came down to their routers being updated/misconfigured so that traffic could not get in or out. In other words Zutterberg’s elves could not get on to the Internet from within the Zutterberg empire so that they could fix why they could not get on the Internet. At the heart of all this was their Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). If you are like me that is pretty meaningless nerd-talk, but I found an old post that puts it all in more or less comprehensible terms.

Elsewhere, such major outages have frequently been triggered by a Hack Attack in order to keep IT people busy while the malcontents install hidden malware.
I wonder if in future we will be entertained by malware driven idiotic outbursts from BoJo – hang on a minute, how will we ever tell!!!
