I get that pain and swelling Nolan, never found anything to prevent it. I get blue vein spots in my finger joints, which is ‘advance warning’ and later it feels like needles in the finger joints and knuckles. Later still come the foot cramps, which were worse at bedtime until I started wearing bedsocks. Only need a nightcap to look like Scrooge! All my toes try to wrap themselves around each other, then try to curl up.
I have a lot of sympathy for you, as I had osteo for years, but did not start to suffer Rheumatoid before I got past about 68. To suffer it when relatively young, must be a trial.

That’s it exactly.
It sucks bawls but there’s no point sitting here doing nothing getting depressed so I do what I can as best as I can. Ben having trouble doing weights in the gym because of my hands so the last couple of days I smashed my records on the exercise bike, that way the pain in my legs is worse than my hands so I can then do the weights I need to if I’m quick about it. 😆
November 22, 2019 at 6:45 pm #38469Had to see the GP again because my hands are worse again. Skin has split on one of my fingers and looks like it’s about to split on 3 others.
Not seen this GP many times before but he’s always been good and today was no exception. He ran an ‘amplifier’ over my hands and fingers checking for a pulse in various locations and found that on the worst affected fingers there was a strong pulse on one side and nothing on the other. He suspects some form of Vasculitis.
He manged to get hold of a rheumatology registrar and they agreed that it wasn’t anything serious. An email to my rheumatologist was sent (luckily the GP knows him personally) and I have another appointment on Monday to see what happens next.
November 23, 2019 at 4:36 pm #38480It’s serendipitous when your medical people know each other, Nolan! Two of my oncology consultants: the surgeon who carried out my pancreatectomy and splenectomy last year, and the Chemotherapy ward consultant, were golfing buddies, working out of Hull and Grimsby hospitals respectively. The GP who began all the original scares after my initial Prostate troubles, sending me for MRI and CT scans in December ’17, had trained and worked under the Hull consultant before leaving medicine, then returning as a GP, part time, when her children grew older. And she is also a good friend of my teacher daughter: our granddaughter is a big pal of her daughter’s. They are in all the same classes at the local Grammar and last night I picked up said granddaughter from the GP’s house. Wheels within wheels! I have further scans on Tuesday next.
My rheumatoid has only very recently caused skin splitting in my LH middle finger. It began with an unusual pain at the finger end, similar to a paper cut. Now it is a small crack. In my left wrist I have had a ganglion for about 15 years. My GP advised me to have it drained only if it causes pain in my wrist and affects movement. Atm it has shrunk, although it was painful until about a month ago, when it began to shrink. The worst effect of my Rheumatoid is tremors in my hands, which are bad today. I hope they improve later, as it is my youngest grandson’s 21st party and I don’t want to chuck my meal all over the table!
I hope you find a solution to your present problems Nolan, you do have it rough lately. I followed your links, very interesting and I found a few matches to my own problems.

Enjoy the nosh!
November 23, 2019 at 11:10 pm #38493He suspects some form of Vasculitis.
Welcome to the club. Unfortunately, it’s a shitty club, but with some lovely members. There’s a great website at
https://www.vasculitis.org.uk/
I’m being looked after in the Heath, but mostly under renal. I’ve seen rheumatology a few times, and they seem to know their stuff. There’s a Vasculitis clinic every so often where they have renal, rheumatology and ENT doctors.
There’s a great Facebook group, and a South Wales support group too, if you need them. The group’s run by volunteers and is more of a place to have a chat, rather than the American style ‘Hi, my name is…’ type groups.
If you want anymore info, just let me know 🙂
November 24, 2019 at 10:16 am #38502Thanks Ryan.

November 24, 2019 at 12:48 pm #38506Yes thanks from me too ryan, can’t have enough info!

Well, you wouldn’t want to be a member of the Billionaire’s Club at the moment, would you????!!!!🙃😋.
Having said that, though, I always thought Labour were in favour of coddling and supporting Minorities!! 150 in the UK – that’s one hell of a minority!!
November 24, 2019 at 6:10 pm #38521How does one join, JayCeeDee?😊😆

I'm out.November 25, 2019 at 12:42 pm #38532GP has sent me to hospital for an assessment.
Now sat in the Heath hospital quietly freaking out. 😳
November 25, 2019 at 3:18 pm #38534Calm down Nolan, 😙 hope you get a good result from this.
I will be in the same position tomorrow after the scans finish, but at home freaking out for ages waiting for the results. they have already had my pre-scan blood tests, hope Louth hospital remembered to send them to Grimsby. I told the Path Lab twice to look at the rear of the blood pack. Fingers crossed.
Missus and I get worried because of things that happen with our medical appointments: she has been rotated between Grimsby, Louth and Boston to try to diagnose a lower spine problem. Last time was Boston, they told her to await a letter, 3 months ago. Last week we went to Louth hospital and the consultant there said that Boston should have told her to contact her GP and ask for another appointment. OR Boston should have sent a letter to her GP.
Hello Left Hand, this is Right Hand: have we ever met?

I'm out.November 25, 2019 at 4:16 pm #38539EDIT to my last post:
Just had a call from Grimsby Hospital. CT scanner broken down, appointment moved from tomorrow at 11:00 to December 2nd at 18:30. Yes you read that right. 6:30 PM. I will be lucky to be home by midnight, as I also have X-rays a urine sample to give.
Might take my toolbox in case the bloody machine breaks down again.🙄🤓

Just seen a doctor and now waiting to see a consultant.
November 25, 2019 at 8:24 pm #385447 hours and not much progress.
Back home now after seeing the consultant. He thinks I have an infection of some kind so skin scrapings and blood from a very recent spot in one of the affected areas were taken.
Should have the results Wednesday/ Thursday. Until then it’s carry on as is.
Worst bit was the GP advised me not to eat until given the go ahead, that had to come from the consultant, so 12+ hours with no grub.

If you haven’t already, sign up with Patient View. It’s an online service that lets you get your results online or through an app. I’ve found with the Heath that if the results aren’t available before I leave, they’re usually on Patient View the same night. You may need your GP or consultant to start the registration, but as it’s the Heath, you can probably just use the online signup.
November 25, 2019 at 9:52 pm #38555Nice one Ryan, never knew about that!
November 25, 2019 at 10:46 pm #38556No worries 🙂
It’s handy as you can see the results and a graph for comparison. In the app you can switch between the two, or the site shows both.

For anyone wondering, Creatinine is basically kidney function. Normal is 60 – 110, so mine’s obviously a bit high. Better than the 1000+ when I was first diagnosed though 😮
November 26, 2019 at 5:41 pm #38573Got all excited about that useful link Ryan! Unfortunately, nothing in my area, which doesn’t surprise me. Nearest are Nottingham, Sheffield and Hull. Had a good look at it and would very much like to see that here. The communication of results is a haphazard procedure here and is one of the things that our local GP’s are always complaining about. As my GP says, if they don’t get the information, they can’t transmit it to patients.

I'm out.November 27, 2019 at 4:10 pm #38587Ryan, I can’t use the site you linked to, asks for a speciality and rheumatoid isn’t listed. Shame but there we are.
I had a phone call just gone 9 this morning asking if i could make a 11.30am appointment with my rheumatology consultant back at the Heath hospital. After reviewing my test results and examining my hands there is nothing to explain the swelling but the other marks and redness he thinks are an eczema flare-up or something related to eczema. I’ve never had eczema like this before.
I’m now waiting for a scan of my hands, which could be next week or next year. For now it’s carry on as best as I can. At least there is nothing major wrong, which is a huge relief.
I’m still baffling medical science, which is interesting but no fun!!
