I am thinking of purchasing a new laptop for my daughter – will be W11 OS, what AV should I be thinking of purchasing or any other one that is free?

      Many thanks,  Dave

You don’t need to purchase one as Windows Defender is built in.

Although once thought not up to par, it’s reputation is now up with the best.

        It’s all I’ve used in Windows 8.1, 10 & 11 & previously Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7.

Except for on demand scanners any installer of a resident AV should take over from Windows Defender so that they don’t clash but don’t necessarily turn WD back on when uninstalled (free version of Malwarebytes in my case).
