So Intel came along with its new chiplet cpu tech and took away AMD’s gaming fps lead and did so with some serious pocket friendly priced cpu’s.

So whats the fuss anyway when 60fps is all you need?

Well times are changing and when it come to the next gen Oculus 3 for example which will be no doubt be oled and 120hz.

Then yeah CPU’s are gonna have to be way more fps capable.

The new mega L3 cache 5800X3D top trumps Intel’s new tech for FPS dominance.

So nice one AMD, but this is where we are @ now, 60hz 60fps will soon be a thing of the past for gaming and AMD need to release pocket friendly CPU’s with big L3 caches to get the fps up where future hz level will be.

Any wayI guess they are onto it with there new monster L3 cache tech. 🙂

This PC World article suggests that anything above 90Hz is a waste of money, except perhaps in the area of VR headsets, but even that that reads to be a little iffy. Unless you are a pro gamer 60Hz is apparently enough .

Interestingly, it appears that perhaps even 30Hz is enough for the central 40% of vision as it is only on the periphery of the eye that movement detection really kicks in. If true this implies that the CPU need only really shift the bits at high rate for about 60% of the frame buffer.

By the way, apparently the Apple M3 hobbled itself somewhat by having a too small a buffer size between CPU and GPU, so cache is probably the key factor.

Yeah, it does now seem that super extra amounts of cache can help cure a lot of evils and no doubt the next M3 will be tuned to that, obvs for games that is, I don’t think there is much out there productivity wise that is interested in the like of L3 cache.

What we have seen in the X3D reviews is that games seem to be heavily update orientated. I duno if that observation is correct??

As for FPS as some one who has played pc games for way to long I have notice some strange things in games.

Like with a constant 60fps screen but explosions are slow compared to the next gen CPU same game, 60fps screen.

Another thing I have recently notice with my new 32″ screen is because it fills more of your vision the ability to play games better is enhanced. Which points out to me that is a mature tech 3D headset is the way to go for the better gaming experience, which kinda links to my first post as to what I have been chewing on lately and as soon as the Quest3 is out I will be getting one.

The only problem with VR is that people wearing them  look like dorks to others.  Maybe something like this Samsung plus some CPU peripheral priority is really the way to go!

I have put the money onto one side for the dork head set. 🙂

The price Of that monitor I would have to rob from my dentistry budget.

In my old age I am getting a true pirate smile.

Hopefully when the work is done I wont come out looking like Baz.

Friends of mine swear by Turkish dentistry.

it costs around 25% of UK prices for cosmetic dentistry. The results are often great but one friend chose to have implants to give him an ultra-bright smile and it looks too artificial for words. His wife was less extreme and the results look like a really nice natural Hollywood smile. The only problem they experienced was that the normal 3-4 month healing delay between pinning and implant insertion was quadrupled by UK Covid restrictions!

Hmm, good idea, tourist dentistry. chewing on that.

So it seems that the 5800X3D is not overclockable because of the stacked 96mb of L3chache. But clearly thats not a problem with how well it performs for games that is.

Its also more energy efficient than the 5800X, but then its clocked 200Mhz lower.

But that lower energy consumption would help it sit better in my B450 mobo.

Anyway in the fist instance I would like one. . But its to expensive for the time being and something better may come along before the end of the year.

I see a load of new budget Ryzens on E-Buyer, but turns out they are Zen 2 and not 3. More dirty tricks and they don’t hold up to Intel £ equivalents.

Still, at least there is now something I can put in my spare 18 month old motherboard that’s been hanging around.

In my reasonably limited experience so far with it on the PC, it’s mainly been down to getting Oculus trying to find the device actually connected! I’ve a recommended cable (an Anker one, not the grossly mispriced Oculus one) and it’s still hit or miss whether the software detects it attached or not. When I’ve tried it, it’s been relatively good, though I was looking to play Star Wars Squadrons on it, and where is falls down is the vast amount of buttons that game can use and you not be able to see your keyboard to press them – or perhaps my desk isn’t big enough for my HOTAS, keyboard and the dangling headset wires!

However, I’ve a few days off at the end of the week where I’ve got no-one else in the house, so I might well finally try Fallout 4 in VR. Just make sure I clear the toddler toys out the way first…

stunt pullers. I think I spelt that right

I here TSMC will be at 2nm for 2025. So that feels like sub 1nm will be achievable and not to far away. CRAZY tech/ science.

Personally I put it down to the Oculus and Oculus software rather than the cable. Though could be because it’s a 5m cable.

5M is that even a thing?

Sound more like the first 2 letter of the Bristol post code. BS 🙂

Keep us posted on the Oculus. I have the same sw game.
