What’s happened to Amazon?
The customer service used to be first rate, now it’s pretty shoddy.
I ordered a DJI Air 2s fly more drone and some bits (sd cards and prop guards). The drone was meant to be ‘As new’, complete, in slightly damaged packaging. It had blatantly been bounced of something as some of the props had nicks on them and there were scratches on it. Also the battery charging brick and some cables were missing.
It was picked up Thursday afternoon (it arrived Wednesday) and there are no updates since then. I contacted them via chat today as the return tracking said that the refund would take up to 14 days to process and could take another 7 days to be credited to my debit card. I paid with a credit card which has been paid off already.
The chat was mostly pointless, just going around in circles but I have got confirmation that the refund will be applied to my credit card.
In the past as soon as the parcel has been scanned and is in the returns system the refund has been issued. If the return was me changing my mind I could understand a bit more but it’s all their doing.
Lesson learnt, Amazon is now for cheap items only, certainly no more than £30. (I’m not the only one having issues with them recently, lots of problems with them in general but especially warehouse items)

JohnSeptember 12, 2021 at 8:15 am #68655I’ve had the odd issue, but all were accepted for return without issue. It all depends on the logistics train with the last person in the chain being the most important. In fact I recently had a delivery refused because the person handling the last step noticed the package was damaged, and just stuck it straight in his refused delivery returns. No charge just an email to me saying something had gone wrong and cancelling that order, the note said my credit card was being credited. If you accept a credit on your Amazon account the refund process is a lot faster.
I have however noticed a worrying trend, sales through Amazon are sometimes handled by box slingers such as Yodel or Hermes. My guess is that these particular firms pay their drivers so little they just do not have time to do things properly.

That’s been the case for me a few times recently. Their refund sometimes beats the retailers notifications.

I returned an Amazon purchase using one of their Parcel Shops ( one of the old Martin McColl chain recently refurbished and rebranded ) and they are geared to print the return label etc and track the parcel, – they used Hermes. All went OK.
We were at a funeral for the wife’s uncle at the beginning of last month and she bought a lot of clothing online from Amazon, John Lewis, Roman Originals and Wallis. When she decided on her outfit I did a whole bundle of returns. John Lewis were superb – returned at a local Waitrose. This was no more than I expected, but good to see they’ve kept their reputation. Amazon – as above – were great, Roman were very good but Wallis ( now taken over along with Burton and a couple of others by BooHoo online only) are dire and their new name describes how they have left me feeling!! One item only refunded at the end of this week after three email chases, and one still outstanding after the same three email chases.
September 12, 2021 at 4:19 pm #68662PM hopefully you sort out your drone issues. Then maybe you can enter next year’s Drone Photo competition.
This years winners are shown in the link.

September 12, 2021 at 7:33 pm #68665Thanks all.
Still no updates available.
On the upside I’m now fully legal for any drone up to 25 KG. That’s a big lump of weight to be flying around.
I’m also got public liability insurance up to £5 million. Which means I can fly in more places as it’s through a recognised model aircraft flying association. Not that simple, but that’s the basics. Some hoops to jump through but it’s mostly just accepting t&c’s and agreeing to be an rsole.

Hopefully that missing “…not ” was a typo?? or tongue in cheek!!??
September 12, 2021 at 8:32 pm #68669JCD, yes, a typo. 🙄

September 13, 2021 at 1:16 am #68673Ordered something from Amazon for £3.99. If it’s sent to my address I pay postage. If I opt for click & collect at my local post office, some 600 yards away, it’s free. Huh?
Ordered a cheap folding cycle at 7.46pm tonight. Item despatched at 8.42pm by DHL with tracking number. I’m not on Prime & haven’t opted for their free trial.
Only time will tell if the items arrive by their stated times & in good condition.

September 15, 2021 at 1:06 am #68677Update – Both items arrived today.
My experiences as a buyer are far better with Amazon than Ebay (buy it now not auction).

September 18, 2021 at 4:31 pm #68719wasbit, glad your stuff turned up and your happy.
My return has now reached Amazon (acording to the tracking on the carriers website) but Amazon are dragging their heels still. No updates for over a week from them.
October 1, 2021 at 6:00 pm #68821After 3 more chat sessions with Amazon they finally admitted that they had the knackered drone and agreed to action the refund. That was Monday.
Tuesday I checked my credit card balance (via phone banking, the app kicked me out many times) to find the refund sat there. So I had to phone them to get them to issue the refund to my current account. That showed up yesterday so I can now put the whole thing behind me. Finally.
As an aside the credit card I used keeps getting blocked, even on small purchases, the app kicked me out several times and says my biometrics aren’t valid, they are as everything else works on the phone, and I got cut off 3 times when phoning them. It’s an Amazon Credit Card via New Day. Coincidence? Probably but that’s now in bits in the bin never to be used again and I’ll stick with First Direct for credit card, current account and savings and Halifax for my other savings towards my next motability car.
October 2, 2021 at 2:31 pm #68824Funny how simple things become so complicated. I had a similar conflict with Direct vacuum cleaners. Make no mistake, do not go anywhere near there offerings and watch out in the small print on Amazon and e-bay, etc who is providing the product.
March 2, 2022 at 5:15 pm #69247Amazon strike again.
I’d ordered some bits (USB C micro SD card readers, things like that) to be delivered to a local Amazon locker. Due Thursday.
Had the notification about 15.00 today that the parcel was ready for pickup.
Went to the locker, started the process and the app crashed. This happened several times so I re-booted the phone and tried again. Same thing. I contacted customer services and eventually got a call back from them. 30 seconds in they hung up on me. Got another call back, this time the call lasted 45 seconds before they hung up. 3rd call back and we were slowly getting somewhere.
Eventually the rep said it was a global problem with all the Amazon lockers. Of course I have no way of confirming this. After a while I got a refund actioned.
I’m amazed that a company the size of Amazon haven’t got at least one backup system in place for the lockers. I wasted fuel and 90 minutes today. Not amused. I really need to get away from Amazon.
