A new challenge to Cryptography

As Forumites know, all secure communications are based on cryptography which in turn is based on prime numbers and the difficulties of predicting very large prime numbers.

In the future, this may not be enough, new discoveries mean that the writing may already be on the wall for today’s security systems and communications.

Physicists have shown a strange linkage exists between the patterns formed when light is shone through a crystalline structure and prime numbers. An interesting layman’s article on this linkage is given in a recent PhysOrg blog
