So, I found tekken7 at the right price and jumped in.
Opend the packaging to no disc but a steam code in the guise of a credit card.
Thats a first for me.
But over and above a steam purchase I got: stickers and a tekken comic book and a credit card? 🙂
Seriously looking forward to this game to take me back to the days when gaming arcades ruled and took all yer pocket money and BFH.
August 8, 2017 at 4:21 pm #10857Yeah reasonably common these days. I went into Game the other day, and I don’t think that there was any physical copies of PC games, it was all Steam keys.

August 8, 2017 at 8:36 pm #10863Hmm it came up the other day that steam now has more avtive users than xbox.
Could these cards be a factor.
This tastes a little like bit coin.
I guess the likes of origin and uplay will catch up soon for physical purchases?
August 8, 2017 at 8:55 pm #10864Nothing like Bitcoin really – it’s essentially like getting a gift voucher for Christmas (or book token – I used to get loads of those).
I doubt it’s anything to do with the cards, and more to do with the fact that electronic distribution makes life a lot easier to purchase new games. Even back when it first started and it was only really Half Life and other Steam games on there, the distribution of the DVD’s was only so that you didn’t have to download the whole game from scratch. Then came day one patches and it made less sense to ship DVD’s – you might as well just download the game straight from them. And Steam doesn’t close, whereas the high street shops do.
I imagine Origin and uPlay are already there – I can’t imagine Battlefield was anything over than a gift card for a download.

August 8, 2017 at 9:57 pm #10874Steam has been the number one gaming platform for a good number of years. If you thin about it, Xbox and ps only sell about 8m units world wide each year.
Re the codes in a box, this has to signal the end for these game shops. Add in games for xbox/windows, if they start using codes and pushing users to the Xbox store to download, and introducing more and more to digital downloads, people will eventually stop going to games etc.
That’s without factoring in the codes kill the secondhand market game shops have been dependent on for about a decade.
August 9, 2017 at 2:59 pm #10886Ah, yes, like a gift card, thats what I meant to say?
But no, I was thinking just today to go onto the dark web and spend some of my hard mined bit coin on the purchase of a human being.
What the hell. stop the wold I want to get off.
Or open up a second hand games shop 🙂
