We’re potentially looking at a second car if my interview from this week pays off which would be a full EV, as it would be primarily used for a commute – though an electric bike might be on the cards as well, as it’s a 10 mile trip each way. Covid has done a number of me and I’ve been struggling to ride more than once a week to my current job, which is 5 mile each way.

Our Puma has an average MPG of 41.65 according to the app we’ve been tracking it with. It’s been good – but not quite as good as the Yaris – but then it’s a bigger car etc. It deals well with the little one in the back! Boot space is great – we’ve driven down to Devon today and had no issues with boot space.

EdP – that makes sense, as they do say that heating the person rather than the air is more efficient. I worked from home with a heated gilet (using a USB battery pack) rather than heating and it was pretty good at that.

Drezha it took me almost a year to recover the fitness level I had before Covid. Apparently Covid can scar the lungs and this affects both lung volume and their efficiency. I found that diaphragm training (link) helped somewhat in restoring volume. The link is to a simple inhalation resistance device.  The device comes in three resistance levels with each one having many intermediate settings, I’d suggest that probably you could select the medium resistance to start, as the high resistance is really only for people at peak fitness. The device itself comes with a screw to set the resistance level, I suggest that you start off on a low resistance level and work up over time.

If it isn’t lung capacity, but oxygen exchange that is the problem then you may well want to see your Doctor, as Covid can develop into a nasty long term problem that needs checking out.

Been doing some more digging and looking at the MG4, purely because I could get the top of the range one potentially and it’s meant to be a very fun car, the winter motorway range is about 150 – 160 miles.

Which means I’d have to charge at least once on the way up and the way back from my girlfriends place. And at least twice when I’m there, once because of running around and once ready to come back home.

Then there’s the cost of public rapid chargers. Around 69p a kWh.

Nearest rapid charger to my girlfriends place is about 1.5 miles away at a very dreary but clean services. I’d have to spend a fair bit of time there over the course of a long weekend and I don’t have enough time with her as things are.

My Puma I fill up once before I leave and once before I come home.

If there Motability could arrange something with the supplying dealer that I could park my (for example) MG4 up at the dealership, pay a small fee and take a hybrid vehicle away when I go to see my GF, I’d have an EV.

As it stands right now the cost of public chargers, the winter motorway mileage and the poor infrastructure makes a full EV highly unlikely for my next car.
