I accompanied my wife on her annual trip to renew her Manchester City passport (a true-blue from birth footie supporter). During the weekend we went a few times to her favourite pub — The Town Hall Tavern, Tib Lane. This is a very friendly comfortable pub where you can generally hear yourself speak — even on a Friday night . Despite being a roughly 50:50 red/blue pub the drinkers are always friendly and any ragging is relatively restrained. As you can imagine the reds came in for a fair amount of friendly ‘stick’ following their visit to the Hammers on Saturday.

One of the very best, and thankfully not trendy, central Manchester pubs. Camra discount, good range of Ales including atm Titanic, and ok-ish selection of pies & mash/peas (Pieminster – not tbh my own favourite pie)

Glad we could do our bit to miff the red half (sorry RSB!) Think I’ve been in that pub Ed.

I’ve almost certainly been in it, though I quite like The Old Monkey on Portland Street which, despite being a Holts pub, does carry a decent selection.

Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.

Sat in a pub in Euston killing time for the off peak trains. Doom bar £4.55 a pint. At these prices I could have afforded a peak time train ticket!

Why on earth would you drink Doombar?

I like Doombar – yes it is mainstream now but at least it still tastes like beer and not tropical fruit or chocolate.

It gets worse.  Their kitchen was shut 4 – 6 and with rush hour approaching couldn’t risk going to find somewhere else. So another pint of Doom Bar and a packet of salt & vinegar crisps please. 90p a packet and it was salt, vinegar and cider. Not cider vinegar, cider. And Kent’s idea of what cider is never mind adding salt and vinegar to it. Weird place.
