Tried getting lateral flow tests near me, impossible. None available anywhere.
Managed to get some for delivery but my mum was trying at the same time and got told that there were no delivery slots available.
Flow before you go only works if you can do the tests.
December 22, 2021 at 7:23 pm #69043So pressures from the Right Wing of the Conservative party have sabotaged any moderate increase in restrictions. Real numbers now exceed 100,000/day, and based on S.Africa and European stats my prediction now is infections of 250,000+/day before the New Year, with 10000+/day hospital admissions early in the New Year and 200+ deaths/day before February 1st.
Moderate increases in restrictions such as table service and masks in pubs, and immediately closing NightClubs could have bought time for a greater number of vaccinations and time for these to kick in. As it is BoJo is going to carry the can for the swingeing lockdown he will need early in the New Year. Stop-Start control is a sign of really bad Governance. The French may think Molnopirivir is ‘espece de merde’, unfortunately for us BoJo and his incompetent weak Ministers are in the same category.
December 22, 2021 at 7:46 pm #69044Ed, not the case in Wales.
More restrictions on Boxing day, so far I haven’t come across anyone that’s not involved with hospitality or professional sport that is against it.
December 22, 2021 at 8:11 pm #69045Yep, Wales is going to be the yardstick against which BoJo can be judged. Early, moderate action versus head up his nether end. Unfair in a way, as BoJo has always lied, and ducked responsibility. Any decision was going to be hard, so it was very unfair for the vested interests of his Right Wing Pub and Entertainment industry backers to make things hard for him.
Unfortunately for him, the North is likely to pay the biggest price. Covid cases in the North lag the South by a couple of weeks, as a result the North will likely get a double whammy of Covid plus Winter Flu leading to a much greater death-rate while with luck the South will be seeing reductions in cases.
Just to compound things the Government seems to have no plans to compensate people for higher fuel and National Insurance. Coupled with the cuts to Universal Credit, real poverty and ill-health are likely outcomes even without Covid.
Methinks that these betrayals and the cuts to the HS2 will not be forgotten when the issues of ‘levelling up come around at the next by-election. Tactical voting will at last come into its own!
January 16, 2022 at 8:04 pm #69072As Novak Djokovic ponders a possible three year ban on him getting a new Aussie Visa, he also faces getting ‘Covid Dick‘ if he ever gets a really bad case of Covid. Luckily it appears that vaccination avoids that issue as well
January 16, 2022 at 9:29 pm #69073As he’s a huge dick, he probably won’t notice.
January 17, 2022 at 4:22 pm #69078The Marsden never ceases to impress me!! I’ve just had a letter through from them, telling me to book my 4th jab – if it’s three months since the 3rd. It is and I will. Just need to go through the ‘AZ only’ scenario from last time. 👍👍 Forewarned is forearmed.😁
January 17, 2022 at 4:44 pm #69079I also had a date for my 4th jab this morning but I also tested positive for Covid this afternoon.
Don’t feel great but it’s like a bad cold so far and that’s OK with me.
I might be eligible for some of the new treatments out there.
January 17, 2022 at 5:03 pm #69081Dave, How do you know???
Les.
January 20, 2022 at 7:14 pm #69096I’ve now been recruited for a trial of Lagevrio.
Should have my medication tomorrow.
January 21, 2022 at 10:12 am #69097Good luck with the molnupirivir (Lageviro), although it is safe, the 2021 trials have shown it to be only 30% effective. These results were much lower than their initial claim of 50% effective, so much so that the French told Merck to go stick it and cancelled a $30 million order. I hope the UK got a discount as a result! Merck since claim that it is still a good treatment for mild Covid.
As you can see, all the tests were done against Covid Delta, so I guess they are now looking to see if it performs any better against Omicron.
p.s. as usual The Government is sparing with the truth (i.e. lying through their teeth!), as they quote the initial disproved 50% effectiveness claim.
January 21, 2022 at 11:06 am #69099Thanks Ed.
I’m hopeful but not expecting anything as I’m an awkward sod when it comes to medication. Stuff that should help/work often doesn’t. Especially painkillers.
More info about the trial is here if anyone wants to find out more.
January 21, 2022 at 11:12 am #69100This research indicates the way to a much more fun way to treat Covid. Just get stoned for a week!
January 24, 2022 at 8:08 pm #69109As much as I think Dominic Cummings rivals BoJo for lack of moral fiber and honesty (re: Barnard Castle 2020), he is very intelligent and has a way with words.
His latest discovery of the (Esquimo) Inuit word Kunlangeta is perfect in the way it describes Boris:
‘
Kunlangeta (which is pronounced koon-lan-getta) is a Yugtun word which means a person who lies, cheats, deceives and takes sexual advantage of women. The word was further defined as a person who knows what the right thing to do is but out of self-interest does not do it.
Murphy asked a Yupik elder what the group would typically do with a kunlangeta, and he replied: “Somebody would have pushed him off the ice when nobody else was looking.”

January 25, 2022 at 11:19 am #69110Day nine and I’m still infectious.
It hasn’t been terrible apart from it affecting my asthma. I managed to get my asthma under control a few years ago by cycling, used my inhaler a few times a year.
I’m back to using it 4 or 5 times a day ATM, hopefully that’ll slowly get better.
February 9, 2022 at 9:31 am #69179Got another date for my 4th Jab. Monday. Exactly when I was told I’d be eligible again after my bout of Coronavirus.
I’m still suffering the after affects and still show as positive on PCR tests due to the way the tests work. Negative on lateral flow though, which is apparently the important one after an infection.
February 9, 2022 at 12:12 pm #69180Anti-vaxxers need to be educated that while Covid only kills in a minority of cases, the after-effects can be a real bitch for many. Although vaccination is not 100% effective, apparently it does seem to reduce the cases of Long Covid. Hopefully this means that you should soon get a full recovery.
February 9, 2022 at 3:15 pm #69181Thanks Ed.
Anti-vaxxers puzzle me.
Spreading dangerous lies about things they don’t understand is madness. More than a few have died in the USA because they didn’t seek treatment despite having blatant Coronavirus symptoms. Because it doesn’t exist. Or prayer will save you, not medical science.
February 10, 2022 at 7:52 am #69182Had they maintained the mask mandate for public places, the latest move to lose the requirement to self-isolate after a positive test might have been seen as bold, but allowing positive tested people to mingle, travel, drink, play etc amongst everyone else, seems to me as just plain daft.
Glad to hear you’re on the mend. Stay safe.
February 14, 2022 at 8:01 pm #69207JCD, I totally missed your good wishes, thanks.
Had my 4th vaccination this afternoon. Hardly any patients in the vaccination centre. 3. Including me.
I had the moderna one this time and my arm is killing me. I’m also exhausted and feel a bit odd. And hungry.
Not bothered as I had reactions to the other 3 and the nurse warned me that I’d probably feel a bit unwell.
