Whether it goes on into October totally depends how Bojo decides to play it. The Cummings solution with around 350,000 early deaths plays out within three months. With Trump edging that way, who knows what BoJo will do.
If Bojo plays the ICU numbers game, then he will let us off the hook in July and maybe August/September then back into lock down again. However if as is likely chloroquine phosphate reduces ICU requirements significantly he may decide to just let the virus rip from July onwards. If he does go the first route, you had better count on three weeks quarantine on your return as he would not want to let loose a new wave of infection during lock-down.
Its anyone’s guess what should be done as without all the testing kits that other countries have we are shooting blindly, and crippled by the low hospital beds&ICU/population numbers that VFM referenced some while ago. Thanks to years of misrule and NHS cash squeezes we rank in the bottom ten percent below even Turkey. link
March 24, 2020 at 12:12 pm #42001A link to the French trial of chloroquine phosphate is here.
March 24, 2020 at 12:17 pm #42002The worrying thing ( on a global aspect ) is Hong Kong. If I understand it correctly, their figures for infection are on the up again. Are they experiencing the second wave that has been mooted or just a continuation. One to keep eyes on.
March 24, 2020 at 12:19 pm #42003hat VFM referenced some while ago
Talking of VFM, where has he been?? I’m hoping it’s just down to the fact that he doesn’t have internet access in his bunker!!!
March 24, 2020 at 2:50 pm #42006Lee tried to email him to no effect. My guess is that he has been co-opted onto a Government Medical Procurement body and his lips have been zippered by HMG.
I hope so, at least he has been studying the whole saga in some detail for a long time and has a pretty fair idea of what would be required and the timescale. I’d have a lot more faith in his abilities than someone who has just moved across from Ag & Fish. (The Ministries have crazy job rotations for their high-flyers which results in the Private Secretaries being jacks of all trades and masters of zero).
Dominic Cummings said the civil service lacked people with “deep expertise in specific fields”.
March 25, 2020 at 12:17 pm #42024There is no escape, Prince Charles has caught it. That will teach him to do all this handshaking malarky!
I can also imagine the Queen giving BoJo a earful for his risky strategy in allowing Cheltenham Races to take place. “First you lied to me. and now you have infected the heir to the Throne. You are obviously a secret Republican!”
March 27, 2020 at 7:04 am #42100It looks like Dominic Cummings has sneakily been trying to place ‘tainted science’ to justify his mass cull strategy.
March 27, 2020 at 7:27 am #42103Looks like others are running with the on-line pub idea.
March 27, 2020 at 7:29 am #42104Forumite Pub Night ?
Anybody up for that? Not that difficult to intergrate zoom on here.

March 27, 2020 at 11:04 am #42117If you are uncertain whether our Government has made a good job so far of handling the covid-19 outbreak, compare us with South Korea etc., and also check out the OECD hospital beds/1,000 people for these countries.
Once you have done that draw your own conclusions. I know what mine are! {~}
(sorry no emojis for sick as a pig)
March 27, 2020 at 11:24 am #42118BoJo has covid-19!
I just wish it had been Dominic Cummings that was getting a taste of his cull strategy.
March 27, 2020 at 1:34 pm #42120Hancock has it too, all those mixed messages…
March 27, 2020 at 4:20 pm #42122DoH rejected NHS advice to stockpile PPE for use in flu pandemics as too costly. Does anyone else think that DoH staff should now be reassigned to front-line bodybag duties?
March 27, 2020 at 6:31 pm #42124All the chickens are coming home to roost. The final wash up and finger pointing is going to be interesting.
March 27, 2020 at 7:37 pm #42128Interesting times. I went to the supermarket this morning, but first via the bread and cake shop in peel. Closed, so no vanilla slice for me, and no bread for many peel residents. At the supermarket, lines on floor to keep us apart, with controls on who enters, but straight in for me. I got most of what i wanted, no local bacon so will walk to our village butcher tomorrow. I noticed little or no rice or pasta. The bread flour was now marked “1 per customer”, so I guess the closing of the small shop has everybody baking. I wanted frozen green beans, but none. Bog rolls, Shelves full and nobody filling his/her trolley.
As from the 1:30 am boat from Heysham this morning, NOBODY allowed on the island, not even stranded residents.Current visitors may leave. We have been steadily locking down and today somebody decided on a temporary (it had better be) 40 mph speed limit. We have had ones, twos and even three new cases daily. Only one today. Are we over the hump here? We are still contact tracing, in view of small numbers and population. It occurs to me that we could be clear in a couple of weeks. Will we remain cut off for the whole summer? Of will there be a massive increase later?
I will keep my fingers crossed.
Les.
March 27, 2020 at 10:44 pm #42143I’ll bet there’s huge pressure to open the island back up for June!!
March 28, 2020 at 10:50 am #42170JayCeeDee, it seems that it is CANCELLED. I don’t think it could be run instead of the MGP end of August.
It seems my last statistic was wrong. That was an early day number. It was 3 not 1. Today, once more 3 again, but maybe more later. Currently total is 32, 30 self isolating at home.
A local woman is reported as blogging about her infection. whilst self isolating at home. It seems both she and her husband caught a dose at Cheltenham. Serves them b****y well right.
Walked to butchers, got bacon, still no delivery of the cow tongue we ordered. Stopped at pharmacy, so our basic medicines are now OK for 56 days. Will go and stack the last batch of logs in a few minutes. Did I mention those?
Les.
March 28, 2020 at 11:12 am #42171That is a shame Les – I looked forward to seeing how the TT race would work at <40mph. A slow motorbike race could have changed the ranking somewhat. B-)
March 28, 2020 at 12:32 pm #42172As Ed says, that’s a shame – it seems as if we’ll look back on 2020 and it will be the year that keeps cropping up in quizzes as the year ***** didn’t take place, be it sporting events or whatever. 🙁
March 28, 2020 at 7:55 pm #42180Did some shopping today and Asda was totally different.
One way in, one way out. Also a long line of crowd control barriers with people queuing. Way longer than I could get to the end of the line. Probably only 40-50 peeps but big gaps in between each one.
I managed to get a security guards attention and explained to him that I couldn’t physically get to the end of the line and do a shop but I’d be happy to wait in the car until it was my turn if he could give me a signal.
He had a word with the other security guard and they let me in through the exit, gave me a pair of gloves and even got me a trolley! To say I was grateful is a massive understatement. :yahoo:
I’ve tried to get a delivery slot but there is nothing available, not even click and collect from any supermarket (as of 5pm anyway). The scheme which runs in England which give priority delivery to vulnerable people is not mirrored in Wales. :negative:
