There are just two cases in Lincolnshire.

In Nottingham City, Three. In Nottinghamshire county, Six. Neither Nottingham nor Nottinghamshire can claim to have the lowest number of cases. That’s as of today, a few hours ago.

Villages are separated by distances and even Lincoln has a relatively small population, for a city. There are no large conurbations. I cannot foresee a situation akin to the Black Death, which left villages empty and churches without congregations. These still dot the county. It can be a bit Tribal, but that may be a good thing.

If you look at the John Hopkins site, and change the bottom RH view to DAILY Cases, the red bars are the “New Confirmed” cases. Look at the recent shape of increase, very much like it was in the early (China only) days. Since China cases are slowing, that is the graph shape of the rest of the world. It looks pretty exponential to me. Starting to grow in US (around 30 deaths), but Trumpton says it is just a scare, and it will go away. Just a pity he can’t get a bad dose, just to show everybody it is not a big deal.

Any bets on the Government policy announcement this afternoon?

My guess is that the Government will try to go for herd immunity via a quick burn (i.e a continuation of the current measures), accept a few deaths in the productive age group and tell everyone at risk to isolate for a month or face the conseqiuences.

I have stocked up with Beer, Crisps, DVDs, Netflix etc in anticipation. However, I do still need a quick trip to Lidl’s to stock up the malt supplies!

With pretty diagrams etc., this blog states what I think is the unspoken Cummings policy. A quick kill.

More importantly, I now have my Lidl Malt!

Important pdf from Imperial College London giving Cov-2 symptoms and when they occur.

” We find that cases often present with fever and cough then progress to myalgia (muscle pain) or fatigue approximately 1 day later and finally, to pneumonia or respiratory symptoms approximately five days after that …”

Based on other Chinese reports if the patient gets to the pneumonia stage without hospitalisation then survival chances are pretty slim.

As the chances on one of us getting the virus are high, it would be wise to figure out from these symptoms when you can just tough it out having called 111 and when you start bugging the bejazus out of NHS 111.

I have often wished that we had a Science & Technology based Government like that of Singapore. The way they have handled covid-19 as detailed in this Wired Article gives me even more reason to be envious of a Government that plans for the future, and is not buried by a Civil Service Public School system.

I think this needs saying, as many of us here are of a certain age.

If a Forumite should not return for, say, two weeks, we will be concerned. So if anyone is going away for a while, please say so, giving approximate return time.

Grim as it is that’s been on my mind.

I’ll create a new section of the forum for just that.

An other thing that I think I am going to do is make a space for those who may be in dia need of products and so on and if anyone is living nearby or can post something out then you never, may come in usefull.

Lastly, I kmow I have just put paid membership in place but I think I need option to allow people to communicate free if 1. Got corona or 2. To discus any of the above.

Very true, Bob, however the rate of events today there seems little likelihood of that occurring. With Europe now named as the epicentre of the outbreak and the escalating numbers of confirmed cases and deaths, I’ve just been chatting with the wife about our planned trip to Murcia, in Spain, for the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May.

It is currently all booked, flights, hotels, car hire etc. It’s been interesting to see the ( unusually ) accommodating stance of the various industries.

EasyJet have emailed me to let me know that flights/dates etc can all be changed without charge.

I’ve checked the Hotel website and we can cancel up to 72 hours prior to check-in date without penalty – after that 10% is forfeit.

Had a conversation with Aviva and our single trip insurance can have the dates re-scheduled for a later trip – probably October – with minimal charges provided we travel before Feb 2021.

Car hire is through EasyJet so that one could go either way, but that’s just 70 quid.

Events over the next week will either make the decision for us, or persuade us one way or the other.

Interesting comment on FB from a British lady living in Italy, basically saying that Italy would not have so many cases and deaths if they had locked down earlier. Their PM is quoted as saying “There is no more time.” She also says that there are more deaths among younger people than reported or expected, even 18 yo’s dying.

                                  Are watching, BoJo?

I am not persuaded that the Gov is doing things wrong.

In the first days of enforced lock down in China, we saw people being forcibly dragged off the streets.

We missed out on 1984, so does anybody think in 2020 a UK Gov could get away with that method.

Whilst Bojo et al are being heavily criticised, and everybody and his dog are shouting “You have got it wrong”, the Great British Public are waking up to the fact that something is amiss. I think when the order comes for us oldies to lock ourselves up, there will be more willingness to do so.

When the young, greedy thickos who are upsetting Bob so much are told THEY must also stop at home, they have already registered something is wrong because of their big piles of Bog Roll, and just MIGHT be inclined to do as they are told.

THEY are the real problem for the Gov.

Not suggesting it has been thought through the way I just put it, but I suspect my analysis is fairly sound.

I just wish it would get through to everybody that 60 to 70% will catch the virus.

As Bojo said during the week, some (= many) will die, and it will be mostly in our cohort. That is just a fact.

Who knows, before it fizzles out, there MAY be enough ventilators available.

All good Les, but imagine trying to complete a Home move and Handover before they lock us up! That’s what we have to do and I am typing this in a break from packing stuff.

Why do women need so many fragile ornaments, glasses and crockery? 90% of which is not used. Packing that is taking too much time, bubble wrap and boxes.

One of the things that the wife has asked me to do is to create a book/list of PINs and Passwords for all the things that tend to fall to me to do, so that if i’m ill, ( or not about!!💀 ) she’ll be able to manage.

I’ve got most of my passwords written down in a book, that’s kept safe, but that doesn’t list the processes she’ll need to go through to get in to the accounts – there’s a reason that mostly falls to me!!!

Others with a similarly techno-restricted other half may think about doing the same or similar.
