Let’s not forget Henry, George & hetty I believe. They have been round some time now. The Henry was a good vac from what I remember. Harry as as well. Link
Henrys are brilliant & so quiet compared to other makes, that’s probably why they are so popular. Plus their relatively low price. Can’t get one (cheap) with a power take off, so there are better makes for the workshop.
Got talked into buying a Dyson V8 for the wife about 2 years ago. £470. What was I thinking?
Within 6 months the brush stopped rotating, so take it back to Sainsburys with the receipt. Have to exchange the complete machine to replace a faulty brush head. That’s ok, we got another 12 months warranty & a brand new machine.
14 months later the wife goes to empty it & the motor assembly pushes into the outer casing & locks in place. Take it back to Sainsburys complete with dust. Girl on the counter is just about to refund us when she realises the amount & calls the manager. He then says it must go back to Dyson for repair & won’t budge.
We go home, look up the relevant legislation which states that goods must be fit for purpose AND last a reasonable amount of time. Next day, back to sainsburys, ask for the manager, quote the legislation & he backs down & refunds us in full.
The only problem is we either travel 20 miles to buy a new cleaner or spend our money with Argos, now part of Sainsburys.
We bought a Vax from Argos at one third the price of the Dyson. The only slight downside so far is that the Dyson automatically charges when wall mounted but the Vax has to manually connected.

I have a 1TB USB thumb drive that was bought for me as a present. About £11 from Wish 2 years ago.
I managed to assemble about 500GB of files & IIRC they took a couple of days to write to the drive @ about 6.5mb/s.
Someone told me how to make dummy files but they still write at the speed of normal files & I had to give up at about 800GB because of time restraints.
It’s still in use, but not for anything important.

Sorry – too much shorthand. Of course I meant normalise music tracks for specific use in a car. Unless there are other reasons, I think that I’d leave alone any tracks that are going to be played at home as the use of ‘compressors’ are generally an intentional move by the A/V producer. to increase the ‘attack’ of a sound in (say) drum sequences. (Another more objectionable example of this is the way apparent loudness is increased during TV advertising breaks)
If you’re after better quality you probably wouldn’t be using MP3s in the first place as they use lossy compression.

The motherboard in my main PC (Gigabyte H55M-UD2H) is very picky about RAM. Took me ages to work out that it needs double sided RAM. Might be the case with your Motherboard.

At the age of about twelve, I also set the chip pan on fire. I managed to get it onto the front lawn & then threw a bucket of water over it. Some things you learn only by doing & in true Victor Borge style the water went in & the burning oil came out . Seeing the front of the house in flames was a good lesson that I never forgot & luckily not a drop landed on me.
One of the films we were shown during fire training used a cigarette lighter with the valve held open for a number of seconds before being ignited with a spark. The whole of the window in the room blew out.

Bob, we also have a number of old trees about the area along with a few woodpeckers, they are jumpy at the best of times and hate to be caught out in the open making them hard to photograph.
Although there are several spotted woodpeckers around, I had never seen a green one until a few years ago when we were loaned a caravan for a week at Blue Anchor Bay in Somerset. A pair were brazenly feeding on an ants nest on the well kept grass verge. They took no notice of us whilst we stopped to watch them for about 10 minutes.

I gather Swindon now wears that crown.
Don’t know about parcels but because of the unions all Oxford mail is now sorted & dispatched from Swindon.

I’ve always used mischief for a group of magpies but on The Chase tonight they called them a tittering.
Parliament is for owls. I’ve never heard of it being used for magpies. 🙂
Further to my post in another thread, I’ve not seen any bees visiting our bird bath for several years but there have been a few wasps in the last couple of weeks.

Best I can find is DVD Slideshow GUI (freeware)
as recommended by Gizmo (2017)
Just downloaded DVD Slideshow GUI, installed & created a slideshow DVD which worked on the DVD player built into the TV.

Windows Movie Maker is still available & works in Windows 8.1. It is part of the Windows Live Essentials & is available here.
This downloads the installer for a suite of Windows Live programmes from which you choose any (or all) that you want.--
