I run pi-hole on a version 2 pi zero, thanks to Dave & Ed P who post about these things, which means I can leave it permanently in place whilst leaving my RP for other things. Just a thought if it went to a forumite.

So glad Bob’s on the mend.
I suspect he will read the forum even if he can’t post – so wishing you a speedy recovery Bob.

That brings back memories.
Tim Rustige did an article on Pringles can usage in issue 902 of MicroMart. How do I know? Because I kept the page before recycling the magazine. Unfortunately no date.

It has been a bit iffy the past few days. I am looking into it.
This is what I get if I try to log in via the drop down menu.

Don’t know if it’s just me but log in from the drop down menu doesn’t work. Purely by chance I found a log in button at the bottom of a topic page & that does work.

@Bob
Apologies for the delay in replying – forum wouldn’t let me log in. Possibly because I set the router DNS to Adguard.
Since then have installed Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi Zero W then added Forumite to the white list.Back to the TP-Link AC1200 (Archer VR400)
Often, but not always it’s extremely slow to open the log in page & then won’t go any further. Sometimes F5 will then open the settings, sometimes not. Just timed it & each took 30 seconds.
Happens with both IE & Pale Moon. Settings tell me I have the latest firmware.
Backspace goes back one page & I can’t find a setting to correct it.
Haven’t found a way to access the USB thumb drive. I can FTP into it via Windows Explorer & HTML.
Presume you haven’t had any of these problems & I’ve got a quirky one.--

I have ordered the AC 1200.
I bought the one Lee was selling. It’ll be interesting to see what you think of it.

“My experiment turning all Android app permissions off, specifically to Google Play Services permission
I’ve been testing the Android Pie Moto G7 for a few days now, where I have
installed hundreds of freeware apps, so I’ve been testing with all app
permissions initially turned off to everything, including system apps
including Android Google Play Services and Carrier Services (whatever that
does):
<https://i.postimg.cc/DzwR5fYf/permission00.jpg>Very few programs actually required me turning on _any_ app permissions!
<https://i.postimg.cc/pdGC0GQF/permission02.jpg>After a few days of testing, there was only 1 minor glitch so far, and a
few bonus glitches, where I’m actually rather surprised how well the phone
works with almost all app permissions turned off.
<https://i.postimg.cc/SxHBxftC/permission07.jpg>The minor glitch was that cellular data worked only for MMS but not for
Internet, which a half hour with T-Mobile support cleared up, which was
that somehow turning all carrier permissions off swapped the cell tower
access point names as described in more detail this recent thread:
o Curious what access point name your mobile provider uses for
cellular and MMS-only APs on your cellular towers?
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.mobile.android/ez-QuVw1fK4>When I fixed the cellular tower access point name, I found that I could
still keep carrier services with no permissions, surprisingly, although I
get errors in my notifications (that I could turn off most likely):
<https://i.postimg.cc/xdc1W5Nm/permission05.jpg>I’m not even sure _what_ “Carrier Services” does; does anyone know?
<https://i.postimg.cc/wxcg4Z4P/permission06.jpg>The bonus glitch is that programs which were automatically doing things
without me knowing about it are now complaining that they can’t do those
things automatically, which I wouldn’t have known they were doing otherwise
– so this is a bonus glitch.
<https://i.postimg.cc/xTvRrTyY/permission03.jpg>Some permissions you can turn on ad hoc, e.g., if you want a browser set to
Google Maps to know where you are via your GPS receiver sensor:
<https://i.postimg.cc/QxWXjCfB/permission04.jpg>*Overall, so far, it’s shocking how _few_ permissions you really need!*
I will test for a few more weeks to hone the process, as, one by one, an
app (e.g., a video camera app) asks for permissions when I use it.################
> After a few days of testing, there was only 1 minor glitch so far, and a
> few bonus glitches, where I’m actually rather surprised how well the phone
> works with almost all app permissions turned off.
> <https://i.postimg.cc/SxHBxftC/permission07.jpg>I found yet another set of permissions which is NOT in this listing!
<https://i.postimg.cc/SxHBxftC/permission07.jpg>What happened was I was testing a set of app lockers, such as:
o App Lock (F-Droid)
o AppLocker (F-Droid)
o Smart Applock (Aurora Store anonymous scrape of Google Play)
o LockIt (Aurora Store anonymous scrape of Google Play)
o AppLock (Aurora Store anonymous scrape of Google Play)
o Perfect AppLocker (Aurora Store anonymous scrape of Google Play)
etc.
<https://i.postimg.cc/L8wMJx2c/permission08.jpg>These apps allow you to password protect any specific app you choose.
o But a whole _new_ set of permissions named “usage access” showed up!
<https://i.postimg.cc/KjZ66VDM/permission09.jpg>Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > Special app access
<https://i.postimg.cc/V6wptTTV/permission10.jpg>There are a slew of _additional_ access permissions in that location!
o Battery optimization
o Device admin apps
o Display over other apps
o Do not disturb access
o Modify system settings
o Notification access
o Picture-in-picture
o Premium SMS access
o Unrestricted data
o Install unknown apps
o Usage access
o VR helper services
o Directory access
o Wi-Fi controlSo it seems we have _more_ stuff to turn off to test over time! :)”

The exercise, as far as I recall, had a one word name something ….ation. As I said previously, there was a handbook but again I can’t remember if it was exclusively for this exercise.

Now that question has been answered perhaps someone can answer another.
In the cadets we had to regularly carry out an exercise to assess whether a distant point could be viewed or was blocked by the intervening terrain.
This was accomplished by plotting a graph of the contours from a straight line joining the points on an OS map.
The exercise had a name which I cant remember & was taken from a khaki instruction booklet .--

Must be on a lucky streak.
Won the Xmas raffle at the local club – £50 meat voucher.
Mid summer, started going to the quiz night at the local hostelry, with varying success. Have come first a couple of times as well as last & all places in between. Anyway, won 5 prizes in their xmas raffle.--

wasbit: looks like it’s an ongoing problem with the FVP 5000, but using Ethernet connection can cure it: https://tinyurl.com/rvh4j7d Here’s another solution, from AV Forums, scroll to last post: https://tinyurl.com/yx5blggg
Thanks Bob but you have misunderstood.
The Humax is not connected to the internet, that’s what the Rokku is for. The Humax gets its signal from the roof aerial, no pass through so the Humax must be switched on for the TV to get a signal.--

Why do you think that you need a new crimping tool? The connectors are no different except for holes to allow each cable to pass through … unless of course you mean the two piece connectors … but I suspect they will use the standard crimper.
I got my connectors from Kenable (St Helens) on ebay.
I also ordered another 50 from a Chinese Ebay seller with a UK warehouse. Although sold as pass through, they weren’t, they didn’t stock them & had to refund.

Got a FVP 5000 direct from Humax thanks to a link provided by Bob some 18 months back.
The great thing is that you can record 3 programmes whilst watching another. Don’t know how they do that with only 3 tuners.
Like all GUIs, you have to find your way around.
Bad points that I’ve found
• Stuttering as if the picure stops then catches up. TV is fine so it’s not a poor signal
• Slow EPG fill. Sometimes it will take 20 to 30 minutes to get the programme information – whilst the TV is instant
• Doesn’t always know what recording it’s deleted especially if it’s part of a series. Shows recording to be deleted, when deleted the recording is still viewable but another recording deleted instead. Recordings list then becomes jumbled.Remote is an RM-L08 with Netflix, On Demand & Freeview Play buttons.
Buttons never used as previously got a Roku for internet viewing thanks to a recommendation by Steve.

We didn’t have a TV so I was cowering behind the sofa in next door’s living room. Most of it was the music. I vividly recall the end of the first episode, Holst’s Mars, the bringer of war played whilst a workman collapsed next to a mobile generator with the ground shaking.
I have loads of old time radio (OTR) if any of the regulars want any : Al Reed ;Bentine ;Beyond Our Ken ;Clithero Kid ;Doctor at Large ;Embassy Lark ;Floggits ;Frank Moir Goes Into ;Goon Show ;Hancock ;Hinge & Brackett ;ITMA ;Men From The Ministry ;Much Binding In The March ;Navy Lark ;Round the Horn ;Roy Castle ;Spike Milligan ;Steptoe & Son ;Stop Messin’ About ;Ted Ray ;Yes Minister, plus other assorted tracks.

I have a PAYG SIM with EE for emergencies & to protect my landline – although I would never have the phone with me as it’s always left behind. Not monthly but I have to phone or text once every 180 days.
OT – On a visit to the dentist the receptionist said that they required my phone number. I refused to give it & she got quite snotty saying it was required in case of emergency. I replied that I had given the dentist my mobile number as he had expressed an interest in doing some wood turning. She said ok, that’s fine – it was pre the GDPR although the privacy aspect didn’t seem to worry her. I then asked her who would answer & where she thought my mobile phone would be if she rang it … in my pocket whilst I was sitting in the dentist’s chair. Doh!

Glad you got it sorted.
Off Topic – watching The Chase last week there was a contestant from the IoM who worked in IT & liked motorbikes. I thought it might be you but when Bradley asked his wife’s name, it wasn’t Tamara.
