If you do a clean install of Windows 11 then you need all the motherboard drivers.
If you clone & the M2 boots, happy days. If it doesn’t, you still have your original Windows to fall back on.--

Can I just reiterate that the current M2 drive mounted in a PCIe adaptor can be seen, read & written to. The current Windows 8.1 was cloned to the M2 drive but it remains unbootable.

There’s an Intel SSD PCIe NVMe Boot Installation Guide here. .
Thanks Dave. That’s one I hadn’t come across.
Apparently some Samsung M2 drives include an old style option ROM that makes them bootable on a traditional BIOS system, much like SCSI adapters did. Failing that, it should be possible to have your system partition on a bootable SATA drive but your Windows partition on the M2 drive.
Yes, but finding one at a reasonable price is the problem.
Apparently the 950 Pro is the one to go for. I’m awaiting the arrival of a 960 Pro which hopefully will also be suitable.

The M2 drive mounted in a PCIe adaptor would probably boot if the motherboard was UEFI but it’s not.

What OS are you trying to boot into and did you install the OS on the M2 via that mobo.
Windows 8.1 refused to install directly to the M2. Think it said because the drive wasn’t bootable.
Windows 8.1 installed on M2 by cloning main drive but not bootable.
tbh I assume you checked page 16 of your Gigabyte manual as that seems to be just as picky..
Page 10 in my manual says,
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) (Note 5)
(The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
(Note 5) For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install
it in the PCIEX16 slot.Tried both slots but no joy.

Update. I only boot into Windows 11 (& Windows 10) whenever I remember so may be 2 or 3 weeks between each log in.
However after 2 days I noticed that Windows 11 had activated itself, presumably using the licence from Windows 8.1 on the other partition.
In my main desktop I have a second HDD with Windows 10. As the experiment with the satellite laptop went so well, I partitioned the Windows 10 drive & installed Windows 11. Same as before, no TPM, no internet connection during the install & a local account. After a couple of days Windows 11 self activated.
Seems like MS have made me a pirate.

Not heard of Clear Disk Info although I have several of their other free programmes listed.
Will give it a try. Thanks.

I must have a hundred or more passwords yet have never seen the need to use a password manager.
HaveIbeenpawned shows that my name has been compromised 5 times. One is dropbox which I have never used & the other 4 I’ve never heard of.
IIRC my name dates back to registering on the Micromart forums back in the 90’s. In all that time I’ve only had to jump through Microsoft hoops to secure my email twice.

Update – Both items arrived today.
My experiences as a buyer are far better with Amazon than Ebay (buy it now not auction).

Ordered something from Amazon for £3.99. If it’s sent to my address I pay postage. If I opt for click & collect at my local post office, some 600 yards away, it’s free. Huh?
Ordered a cheap folding cycle at 7.46pm tonight. Item despatched at 8.42pm by DHL with tracking number. I’m not on Prime & haven’t opted for their free trial.
Only time will tell if the items arrive by their stated times & in good condition.

That’s a shame – just given away a decentish desktop. Got another not so good. If you need it I’ll dig out the specs. Yours for free – I’ll pay the carriage.

TPM has already been bypassed with a registry edit or by creating your own install

You should be so lucky, all we have had is a few spots.
The weather seems to move in bands running SW to NE. Lots to the east of Oxford & some in a line from Devon through Tewkesbury (which normally includes Swindon) but a large swathe in between got very little.

Can’t remember who originally mentioned Clickspring an Antipodean engineer who has attempted to reproduce many of the parts

Stroke your screwdriver over a magnet to magnetise it. Reverse the direction to demagnetise.

Nice to hear from you again Bob. Dave has been keeping us up to date.
Completely agree with your sentiments on life & death. My body will go to Oxford University for medical research when I die – & that’s getting nearer by the day. 🙂 Part of the deal is that they hold a memorial service so that the relatives can grieve.

She might have to log into her hotmail account using a browser & in the settings allow the ipad to be a known device.
Or it may be a ‘High Imortance’ setting by the sender
