Pity you gutted it. I think that you would have had a fair (but not guaranteed) claim under the sale of goods Act. Six years or so is the expected life for a TV so I think you would have been in a good position to get money back from Argos. (see link). Now, nothing, unless you lie through your teeth, or can get a tame professional repairer to say they investigated and found it faulty.
The retailer also has the right to remove a percentage from the refund for the use that you have had from the item.

What’s more annoying is that they are using taxpayer’s money to advertise the tax charge, well on Gold anyway.
Gold is a dab station playing mainly 60s music. I would tune in to Classic FM but the noise of the power tools & machinery doesn’t do anything for it.

Just checked & Lastpass is available as an add-on.

The El Reg link is at least a month out of date.
An important sentence in the Inquirer article: “Last year a survey by Accenture found that the problem wasn’t with the OS, but the way it was being deployed an managed by the city’s IT departments.”
It “found that most of the problems stem not from the use of open-source software, but from inefficiencies in how Munich co-ordinates the efforts of IT teams scattered throughout different departments.”– https://www.computermagazine.com/munich-plans-new-vote-on-dumping-linux-for-windows-10/
Whilst “The government of the state of Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) aims to increase its use of free and open source software, according to German press reports. The aim is a “complete replacement” of proprietary software.”

In fact, you didn’t need to remove the glass, just give the measurements to your repair man. However, wise move to get him to measure it.
You could fill the hole temporarily with a piece of thin ply or hardboard just to stop the cold & rain getting in.

I must be missing something here. Every double glazed window I have seen you remove the trim that keeps the glass in place, make note of any packers/spacers then remove the sealed unit (glass) & replace – no need to remove the frame.

As long as it’s properly wrapped, ie vacuum packed or sealed so that the air can’t reach it – then as many years as you like. Doesn’t work with fish & the meat must be used if defrosted. We used to buy a lamb or half a pig which the butcher would cut up into suitable joints, wrap & mark them & we could still be using them up some years later.
Although tinned, I’m sure I read that they found a stash of Scott’s stores that were still in perfect condition.

That’s his predictive text, innit Steve! Just like yours. 🙂
I gained a petrol chainsaw that got wrongly delivered. Complained like hell to the supplier who said to keep it & sent the correct items overnight. Just hope the person who received some underground drainage items could make good use of them especially half way up a tree! 🙂

I’m of the opposite opinion.
CCleaner is one of the first programmes that I install on any new PC, whether mine or others, & has been since it’s early days when it was called Crap Cleaner.
The cleaner is one that does no harm thus can be used by those not computer savy, unlike some others where you have to scan every item to be removed diligently.
The uninstal list populates immediately whilst you have to wait for Windows. No mucking about with MSconfig & having to reboot or trying to remember where to find System Restore. It’s all built in to the GUI of the programme.
The less said about registry cleaners the better, but if you really must use one, then Eusing Free is the one to go for
– http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htmI always get CCleaner from the builds page because the installers didn’t carry the additional PUPs. I see the slim build is no longer available but I generally chose the portable version anyway. I also turn off the notifications & use it without any updates

Smart meters are the biggest scam going. It’s for one reason & one reason only – to save the cost of reading the meters.
AFAIK, you are not even offered a lower bill for the electric companies savings & just like the gas & telephone companies they will remove any discounts by renaming the tariff.

To clean the rust look up electrolysis rust removal on Youtube. I’ve used the method to good effect on a number of occasions.
As others have said, a quick wipe over with an oily rag is sufficient to keep the rust at bay.

Kdenlive is an excellent simple and powerful editor, but Linux only.It is now my favourite video editor. I have never tried it with a Live CD but that may be an option for a Windows user.
Nope. Taken from the download page
– https://kdenlive.org/download/
Windows
The beta Windows version can be downloaded from the KDE servers. If you want to export to H264/265 (instead of free WebM) it requires external FFmpeg download, follow the instructions bellow:
Unzip the kdenlive download (kdenlive-windows)
Download FFmpeg shared 64bit build from Zeranoe.com
Unzip the FFmpeg download
Copy the content of the FFmpeg “bin” subfolder (.dll and .exe files) inside kdenlive-windows folder
Copy the FFmpeg “presets” subfolder inside kdenlive-windows folder
Start Kdenlive from kdenlive.exe in kdenlive-windows folder, close it and re-open it.--

Only ever worked on a large all in one MAC – surprisingly similar to any other desktop PC.
You shouldn’t have any problems getting into it if you are familiar with laptops.
Repairing the faults might be a different matter.
