We were taught at school that bees don’t need to drink as they get all the moisture they need from the nectar that they feed upon. Imagine my surprise several years ago when I watched numerous bees drinking from our birdbath. I even videoed it but the video is a bit big to upload at 70mb.
The explanation came from a tv programme in that the bees take the water back to the hive, squirt it out & fan it so that it lowers the air temperature to combat overheating.
Haven’t seen any bees drinking last year or this.
I remember being shown a film at school by the Moody Institute called Blind as a bat, whereby a bat was placed in a room, its food in another & the only way between was through a large fan in the wall. The fan speed was controlled by a scientist & the speed was increased each time the bat made it through the blades. On the fifth or sixth attempt the bat veered off knowing that the fan blades were moving too fast for it to get through. Shows how incredibly sensitive the bat’s echo location is.
There is also another film (not Moody Institute) showing how lacewings have adapted to evade bats by dropping out of the bat’s flightpath at the last moment.

A teacher in a one-room schoolhouse arrives one morning to find a nice, red apple on her desk with a tag on it saying T.O.T.
Knowing that she had some not-so-nice pranksters in her class, she cautiously asked, “Can someone explain what T.O.T. means?”
Mary in the front row raised her hand and explained, “It means, ‘To Our Teacher.'”
The next morning the teacher finds a bigger and prettier apple than the day before. This time there is a tag with T.O.T.W.L. written on it.
She asks for an explanation for this note and little Johnny waves his hand to explain, “That means ‘To Our Teacher With Love.'”
The next morning she arrives to find a great big watermelon sitting on her desk with a tag saying ” F.U.C.K.” Her jaw drops and she screams,
“Who can explain this?”Little Buckwheat in the back row raises his hand and says, “that means, ‘From Us Colored Kids.'”

A Baptist pastor was presenting a children’s sermon. During the sermon, he asked the children if they knew what the resurrection was. Now, asking questions during children’s sermons is crucial, but at the same time, asking children questions in front of a congregation can also be very dangerous. Having asked the children if they knew the meaning of the resurrection, a little boy raised his hand…
The pastor called on him and the little boy said, “I’m not sure, but I know that if you have a resurrection that lasts more than four hours you are supposed to call the doctor.”

I should also add that as the UK is the first country to ever leave the EU, then all sides are breaking new grounds at this time – if anyone else goes then I’m fairly certain there will be some ‘previous experience of such matters’ to refer to. And just to cap it all – bl**dy football and tennis on the TV!!!!!!! Rant over!!
Sorry to be pedantic, “Is Britain the first country to leave the EU?
— As a full part of France, Algeria was effectively a member of the Common Market between 1957 and 1962. That ceased upon independence in 1962.
— Greenland joined as part of Denmark in 1973. After winning home rule it held a referendum on membership in 1982, and 53 per cent voted to leave.
— The Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy became a member of the EU as part of Guadeloupe, an overseas department of France. This ceased when Guadeloupe seceded.”I didn’t know about Greenland until I heard it on ‘The Chase’ earlier tonight.

IIRC the external hard drive had it’s own power supply & connected to the PC via USB.
The SATA/IDE adaptor is a separate device to connect a bare hard drive to the PC so shouldn’t be needed with the external hard drive …. unless you are saying that you have a second HDD connected using the adaptor.
Either way, I’m not having a dig. they are yours to do with as you wish, even sell if you want to … just reminding you that you should have an adaptor to connect bare HDDs with out having to buy one.

John, I sent you a SATA/IDE to USB powered adaptor similar to the Storite, about the same time as I sent the external hard drive.
I now use a couple of Startech External SATA docks. Only suitable for 2.5″ drives & are powered using a ‘Y’ USB cable from two ports. These do all my backups & testing of drives. If you use a USB hub it will need a power supply.
For the odd 3.5″ drive that I need to check out I have a Sharkoon SATA dock which has an external power supply & also various ports as well as a card reader.

Saw these in Cheltenham Town Hall early 70’s – as the support band to Argent.
Cheltenham Town Hall in the 60s = Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. One of the perks of being a choirboy as we got to miss a few lessons.
There are some musicians/groups that never seem to do anything bad eg
Abba
Beach Boys
Buddy Holly
Everly Brothers
Kinks
Showaddywaddy
Simon & Garfunkle
Wurzles with such unforgettable titles as …
The Champion Dung Spreader ; Nellie The Bionic Cow ; Wurple-diddle-i-do Song ; Thee’s Got’n Where Thee Cassn’t Back’n, Hassn’t ; The Chew Magna Cha-Cha ; Don’t Tell I Tell ‘Ee & many more.--

I use Passmark to see how different graphics cards compare
– https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
GTX670 = 1222-5372
GTX1060 = 7365-9606How these figures translate to real life, I don’t know.

Yes, I agree and one of the first commercial machines was organised by a tea shop… The war time years launched a number of projects but it all ran into the sands. We once had a computerised machine tool industry, I repeat ‘we once’. Look up Elliott Automation 803., etc.
Wow! That’s a bit of an understatement.
In fact it was J Lyons & Co of Corner House, teashop & cake fame, in 1951

Something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Elec-Gang-Adaptor-Switch-CAB5186/dp/B00LGWNJZO/
You can get a 3 gang plug in, or a 500mm trailing version in Poundland. I’ve had 4 of them in use for several years so there’s now’t wrong with the quality.

@wasbit – my desktop is permanently connected to THIS – it uses Radio Player, which itself has a vast variety of stations for all tastes.
Thanks. I was using that on the PC before buying new systems. Tried it on the tablet but the speakers are too small.

Remember that the DVD player outputs only so connect it to the TV & on the TV select the correct source. The Humax doesn’t even need to be turned on because there is no need for any channels.
I know nothing about the quality or sound other than what I can set up on my own systems by reading the manuals & googling.

Mine are similar to these but with English labels
eBay item number:162960566350
0 – 10Kg metric/Imperial £4.99I write the weight on the package so that I can check it at the Post Office. They are surprisingly accurate.
GPO small parcels are 1kg & 2kg.
Medium parcels are 1/2/5/10/20kg with 5kg 1st/2nd class £15.85/£13.75 & 10kg £21.90/£20.25 it’s cheaper to use a carrier.--

I had a DAB radio in the car about 10 years ago, perhaps more. Ok for Oxfordshire but in Cornwall, go down a hill, lose the station, up the other side & it tuned in to a completely different station. Never again.
Last year, walked in to the local post office & started singing to something playing on the radio. Then I knew the next song so had to ask what station? It was Gold. Only available on DAB & medium wave though, so had to fork out for a new CD/radio for the living room, another for the kitchen plus an outdoor aerial on the roof, & a portable radio for the shed. Normally I would listen to Classic FM but classical music isn’t really conducive to a noisy shed.

Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young ‘pullets,’ and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs.
He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.
This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters.
Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing.
Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.
Fred’s favorite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch’s bell hadn’t rung at all!
When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.
To Fred’s amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn’t ring.
He’d sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one.
Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Local Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.
The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the “No Bell Peace Prize,” but they also awarded him the “Pulletsurprise” as well.
