FDA warns against smartwatches, rings claiming blood glucose measurement capability
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a safety warning to patients, consumers, and healthcare professionals in the US. It states that no smartwatch or smart ring has been authorized, cleared, or approved for measuring or estimating blood glucose values on its own. This warning comes as wearable technology claiming noninvasive blood glucose measurement capabilities gains more attention. The FDA has urged to be cautious of such claims and report any suspicious devices through its MedWatch Voluntary Reporting Form.

Neuralink’s first human patient, implanted with the company’s N1 brain chip, can now control a mouse cursor with their thoughts following a successful procedure.
Elon Musk, CEO of Neuralink, announced the patient has fully recovered without any adverse effects and is working towards achieving the ability to click the mouse telepathically.
Neuralink aims to enable individuals, particularly those with quadriplegia or ALS, to operate computers using their minds, using a chip that is both powerful and designed to be cosmetically invisible.– https://www.pcmag.com/news/elon-musk-claims-neuralinks-first-human-patient-can-control-cursor-with

Yes Dave. 🙂 From the Tom’s Hardware link:
“An interesting detail about this new connector is that it is not an original design. Instead, it is a modification of the High Power Card Edge (HPCE) standard that is used heavily in the server industry. In theory, this means this new consumer-focused HPCE connector won’t succumb to similar reliability issues as the new 12VHPWR connector, since the connector has already been field-tested in the server space.”

CPU Unpark Utility
“If you use Windows 7/8/10 (or Windows Server variants) and own a multi-core CPU, a feature called ‘Windows Core Parking’ may be enabled that will throttle your CPU. The default settings for ‘Windows Core Parking’ are set to maximize power savings. However, these default settings are not tuned for gaming or other high performance programs. Unparking your cores will allow them to run at their highest settings (active) without being disrupted to enter parked (sleep) state when idle. This will help with lag and stutter during gaming or other high intensive programs. Games that use multi-cores like Battlefield 4/5, Far Cry 3/4/5, Crysis 3, Metro, Planetside 2 will benefit greatly from unparking CPU cores.
Another way to see which cores are parked, you can launch the Resource Monitor, which is located in the (‘Start’ button menu, All Programs), Accessories, System Tools folder. Select the CPU tab, and in the CPU Graph region you can see if a core(s) is parked.”

@ Les. Wanting to use an NVMe M.2 drive to boot from, I sidelined my old rig & bought a reconditioned Dell Opliplex for less than £100. I say reconditioned but it probably only had the hard drive wiped & Windows reinstalled.
They come in 3 sizes : Midi, Small Form Factor & Micro. The specs & the ports vary even within the same form factor.
If it’s Windows 11 it probably isn’t up to spec but has the OS loaded by using the well known work arounds – not that it will worry you if you’re installing Mint.

You don’t need to purchase one as Windows Defender is built in.
Although once thought not up to par, it’s reputation is now up with the best.
It’s all I’ve used in Windows 8.1, 10 & 11 & previously Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7.
Except for on demand scanners any installer of a resident AV should take over from Windows Defender so that they don’t clash but don’t necessarily turn WD back on when uninstalled (free version of Malwarebytes in my case).
