Ths is the cable I bought:

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32996527344.html

As far as I can tell it does fast charging. I’ll have a proper look tonight though, and see how much it charges in 10 and 30 minutes.

        Thanks guys 🙂

It’s a shame, but not the end of the world.

I’ve got a C connector for my Honor 9, and it fits through the case better than the two normal cables that I use. It’s small enough to stay there too. I might just buy a load during the xmas / new year sales and be done with it.

JB, when you sell something, you and the buyer get each other’s details (usually via Paypal), certainly the seller gets the buyers details.

I’ve never had the seller’s details, only the Ebay emails. I don’t think I’ve ever been sent a way to communicate outside of Ebay.

My new question therefore is can I, and if so How — do I upgrade to Android  7.1.1

If it’s a no name tablet, you might be out of luck. Go to Settings, then it’s usually under System, and Updates. You may need to dig through the settings to find it though.

Double check the hard drive settings and storage settings in the bios in case there’s some weird Dell setting that’s messing things up.

Mostly Reddit and social media for me, but it tends to be Youtube for Ellen. She puts it on for Alice when we’re out and about, or need to kill time*, and it uses more data than I realised.

*If you need to kill some time with small kids, look up Dave and Eva on youtube. It’s mostly counting and alphabet songs, with actual speaking instead of teletubby type babbling nonsense. Blippi is pretty good too 🙂

If the price of E Vs were to be reduced to the point of the DLA/PIP allowance, how many Motability customers would ask for an EV? My guess is a lot, including myself.

I dont know if EVs have got the right public image. They’re great, and for the majority of people they’d probably be the right choice, but the perception seems to be that they’re awkward to charge and still have a short range, so for the elderly and disabled they’d be unsuitable.

We know that’s not actually the case, but for people who don’t know much about cars, like my parents, that perception would be enough to put them off. Add to that the actual inconveniences like trying to charge one in a terraced street, and you’d probably find that the number of people asking for one would be quite small.

As an aside, I’d love to get one, along with solar panels for the house, and get some free miles in 😀

You won’t use as much as you think you do, unless like Steve you use it as a TV. It’s always media that eats it up.

This is what’s thrown me. 6Gb should be plenty for me, and Ellen’s averaging about the same, except she’s almost hit the 12GB limit more than once. Both of these figures are then without Netflix. Adding Netflix would then probably push us up to the 12GB tier on the SIM only deals, which includes Netflix on Go Binge, which cuts the usage back down >.< I think I’ve figured it out though…

We’re going to go for the 12GB SIM only for me, as it’s only a £3 difference between that and the 4GB SIM. We’re putting Ellen on the unlimited SIM for the same reason, it’s only £7 more and we’re still saving money overall. She’s been deliberately not using things like Youtube because of hitting the data cap previously, so she could do with being on the next step up from the current 12GB package, but the only step in between is the 30GB package for £18. The unlimited is £10 for the first 6 months, then £20, which works out as £17.50 a month. We’re getting the Netflix ultra HD package too, and tethering the Fire Stick to the phones as needed (probably getting the Three home broadband once our current package ends).

We’re currently paying between about £60 and £70 a month depending on any extras, and this should cut the bill to £42.50, unless I’ve missed anything.

Thanks for the replies guys 🙂

We’re both mostly happy with our phones, and it’s probably just the fact that we can upgrade that’s making me want to. We can afford the contract cost at the minute, so I’d rather get a new phone now if I’m going to, instead of paying out a lump. That’s not overly important though (but the Razer 2 is tempting 😀 )

I worked out earlier that over the last year I’ve used about 3GB a month with a handful of exceptions, but that’s deliberately being careful of my usage (sticking with wifi when it’s playing up, for example). At a guess, I’d say I’d use about double that based on the exceptions. Just to complicate things, if we do go for SIM only, I’ll probably get Netflix with the money saved. It will use more data, but on Three’s 12GB+ plans it’s included on Go Binge, which means it doesn’t count against limits >.<

I’ve got no idea what Ellen uses at the moment, so I’m fighting Three’s bloody awful website to find out.

Tippon don’t forget there are some cpu/gpu gotchas which make Win10 impossible for machines in the Vista and earlier era.

Wouldn’t that stop it from installing rather than activating though? It’s installed correctly, other than I think two drivers, but it wouldn’t activate with a 10 key.

Turns apps like Netflix on but the next thing you have to do needs the remote so a bit pointless.

If it works like Alexa, you might be able to say something like ‘play the next episode of Stranger Things on Netflix’

(Great if you’ve got a Fire Stick in the main TV and another Amazon device in a different room 😀 )

I switched from FF to Chrome quite a while back now, so started using FF for Alice’s email account and Google activity. I don’t know if it’s the way I’ve got FF set up, but it feels clunky and old fashioned compared to Chrome, but I don’t notice much difference in speed. Chrome usually uses more resources because I have more tabs open, and lots of them are Facebook pages, which can be a real drain. One thing that really bugs me though is that FF uses a dark blue background for its pinned start menu icon, where everything else uses light blue, so it’s jarring.

I’ve recently tried Opera again on three systems, and while it’s good, the quick dial comes preloaded with ads in the form of sponsored links, and on all three systems it imported the bookmarks from my default browser without giving me a choice. On my laptop it took over as default browser too. I know I didn’t select the wrong option because I was double checking every choice during installation to see if it had asked me to import bookmarks and I’d missed it. It’s not the end of the world for us on this forum to fix, but it annoyed me. The built in VPN is handy and works really well. I’ve tried it on a few blocked sites, and I can’t see a difference in loading speeds compred to normal sites with it off.

If I was doing a straight upgrade, then yeah, but I’ve bought her an SSD too. The original plan was to do a clean install onto the SSD with a cheap ebay key, then let her get used to Win 10 slowly. I had the first key refuse to activate, so the seller sent a new one, and that wouldn’t activate either. I’m hoping that it’s something to do with the laptop previously being upgraded from Vista to 7, and using the 7 key will let the 10 upgrade go through.

It’s been about a month so far and I still can’t get her to tell me what she wants transferred >.<

I started the process of updating Ellen’s laptop from 7 to 10, and found a link saying that if you enter a Win 7 key either during the Win 10 installation, or on the activation screen later, it will activate. I haven’t had a chance to test it yet, as she’s taking ages to figure out what she wants to keep from the old drive…
