Have you updated the drivers, or tried another monitor? If you updated the drivers, was it before or after this started happening?
That’s brilliant, thanks 🙂
I use Thunderbird, so I’ve never seen a Gmail ad either :good:
Thanks Lee, but I’m after some practise with Linux for now. If I ever get the time to set up those servers I bought, I’ll be running a flavour of Linux on one of them.
I’m not happy with the online guides for getting it set up though. They’re titled something like ‘Install WordPress on Ubuntu 16.04’ but after you get through most of the instructions and have changed a load of settings, they refer to something that was outdated in Ubuntu 12, so it just doesn’t work. The authors don’t seem to reply to the comments asking for help then either
I’m just going to wipe the VM and start again tomorrow. I was going to do it today, but this is my first chance to get near the computer 😥
Cool. Cheers dear 🙂
Google emails me every 6 months to asked if my EOL info is up to date. If I don’t login to a my primary Google account for a certain length of time it will email, my wife in my case, an email that will give her access to my main account, and it has an attached email with all the account info she needs for stuff, and instructions on what files to keep, and what to do with work files. Well tbh it says, let your brother….. And he can sort the files out. Every time Google emails me I look over the info in the email and ammend them. When way wife got ill, her brother was pit on the EOL mailing list. Just incase. I’d recomend you all do somthing similar. There are a few companies that offer this. But I settled on Google because they are not going to fold over night, and off they decided to retire the service they will give you plenty of notice. Also if you dont want to send someone the keys to your Google account, you can tell Google to but it in hibernation for as long as you wish, then delete the it if you dont return in that time.
Have you got a link for this please Steve?
@sgb101 Just be careful with cheap compatible toners. I’ve got one here that looks like it’s running out, but it’s just the low quality casing for the toner letting the powder leak into different parts of the toner casing. Luckily it hasn’t damaged the printer.
However, an ad in the file explorer isn’t ideal. I’d be looking at third party explorer replacements…or how to get everything working on Linux.
This is what gets me. People paid for Win 7 upwards and got the upgrade to Win 10. In lots of cases it wasn’t wanted or needed, and in some cases it was even done against the users wishes. Now there are ads too. Imagine paying for the OS you want, then getting an unwanted ‘upgrade’ that gives you nothing useful to you, and getting ads as part of the deal. I wouldn’t be happy.
One day I’ll pull my finger out and actually switch over to Linux, honest…
Officially, it’s not free anymore though
I’m guessing that it was PlaneMan or Duke who originally shared this, but it could be handy:
I wish I wasn’t the only geek out of my friends though, as I’d love to see the look of shock if that worked :yahoo:
I remembered it being there when I first got the 1+, as I had an old SIM with some info on, but I had to look for it now. Like you say, it’s not something that’s needed much any more.
A bit late now, but as long as the SIM card fits in the new phone, you can transfer contacts straight from the SIM. Open the Contacts app, go into Settings, then Import/Export and you’ll see the options. Same with SMS messages saved to the SIM (likely with an old phone). Put the SIM in, open the default messaging app and go to settings, and near the bottom is the option to manage messages on the SIM :good:
Really stretching now, but I don’t think ms really care tbh. Of they did it wouldn’t be so easy.
At this point they just want to move everyone to 10, and this is an easy cop out without admitting that no one will pay retail prices :good:
Thinking back actually first experience was on a machine with two sort of joy sticks with round knobs on and a tennis ball “white dot” on the screen with a line down the middle. No idea what it was called.
A Binatone like this?

Has anyone give my new search a whirl?
I’ve just given it a quick try, and spotted a potential problem.
Because I knew you’d done something different with it, I was paying attention on the first try. I typed in ‘laptop’ and watched it offer to autofill, then saw the scrollable results from the forum underneath. When I clicked the search icon, it showed me results from the articles only. Pretty cool if you know what to expect.
When I quickly typed ‘laptop’ and hit enter as I usually would if searching, it just took me straight to the articles. This could be confusing, especially for new users who haven’t got to grips with the site yet.
P.S. I can see what Ed means. While I was typing this, I wanted to open a new tab to the front page, and the only way to do it was to scroll to either the top or bottom of the site.
What’s a pagan tree? Is that how you grow little pagans? 😉
I don’t know if it’s because my laptop’s got a fairly low resolution (1366 x 768), but there’s not much difference between the two comparisons in the first post here

What’s the film we called? Is it the same name? And you would recommend it before the series?
I still haven’t watched the film, and I really enjoyed the series :good:
Possibly poor taste, but what happens if he gets it going? Will she come back and tell you ‘Jim fixed it for me’?
