      Thanks both 🙂

Unfortunately, no joy. The ipad’s charged overnight for two nights now, and it’s only showing the flashing apple. Nothing happens if it’s unplugged, and nothing happens when I press any of the buttons 🙁

Time to get the tools out then ?

My old X4 rig is now in the local open prison running a 4 CCTV camera system and SIP server to give them VOIP between three buildings without digging a trench. The X3 is a standby machine for the charity but I know it’s only got a 760G mobo.

I’m sure that Tiger Woods will be happy to know that ???

I’m not going to comment on anything else for now, but pop a donate button towards the top of the forum, where the Latest Replies button etc. is. Maybe have Donate £5 and Donate where you choose the amount, they should be pretty easy to set up with Paypal. I know there’s a way to donate at the moment, but I couldn’t tell you how, or where to find it.

I’m fairly sure part of the training is to ignore all other animals. It doesn’t bear thinking about if a working guide dog thought it would be a good idea to chase a cat.?

I know it shouldn’t, but that made me laugh  :yahoo:

I sent a message to my “Saturday group” earlier (Motorcycle stuff) and I asked for some info. One chap has sent me what I assume is 12 photocopied pages from a book. Problem No. 1. I can’t open any of these attached files (jpg’s) using a range of programmes. Only text editor attempts anything, which is basically a header then 224 pages of gobbledigook. This then led onto:- Problem No. 2. I tried to reply to sender to explain problem, but when I finished, the usual “Send” button was instead a “Send Later” button. There was also a “save” button which may or may not normally be there. Using this put the message in Drafts, where I could open it, still with “Send later”, and if I cxlicked the “Edit” button, and made a small edit, there was no change, still only “Send later”. I tried a separate mail rather than reply, and also another reply to somebody else. No change. Any suggestions? Les.

You’re working offline. File > Offline > Work Offline. It can also be triggered with ALT F L W Has the cat been near the keyboard

It’s possible that Thunderbird buggered up and for some reason took itself offline while you were receiving the email, and corrupted the attachments.

Went to a concert in Hatfield (Hertfordshire) last night (Toots and The Maytals – Jamaican reggae legend for all you headbangers!). Quite a modest scale event – outdoors but at a guess a couple of thousand capacity. Took about 45 minutes to get in, three search stations and two cordons of armed police! Very thorough searching of bags, had to demonstrate mobile phones working etc. Am guessing this is going on elsewhere, not complaining, just a sign of these times post-Manchester.

I went to the Hay Festival yesterday, and it was nothing like that. There was a bag search on entry, and two armed officers patrolling with big smiles on their faces, and that was it.

Now that some ISPs offer gigabit fibre, would it be worth installing in a new build or refurb?

Don’t worry, I’m not planning on doing it, so you’re not going to get a million and one it’s gone wrong questions

MI5 (and associated organisations) were doing what the Security Service always does: trying to trap the whole network by letting one suspect walk free and consider himself safe. Unfortunately, on this occasion (and apparently on others) they gave him too much freedom, but at least almost all the connections had already been made, hence the roll-up of what appears to be a network.

Sadly, I don’t think it was a deliberate attempt, and any benefits may have been accidental. It may have been said in this thread, but it takes 36 people to monitor one suspect. I was reading this week that there are currently about 3,000 suspects, or persons of interest, and only 4,000 MI5 staff. 1,300+ armed police have been laid off in the last few years, and 20,000 police officers and staff have been laid off over the last few years.

Whether we like it or not, it’s difficult to police members of the public handing out flyers inside your building. If they were stood at the door handing them out, then yes, the imam is at fault. If someone is inside and discreetly passing them out though, it’s much harder to spot, especially if there’s a decent sized congregation. The fact that a stereotypical looking English man was apparently given a ‘very expensive package’ containing DVDs and anti western material seems a bit odd though, especially if it happened after the bombing. Surely material like that would be given to disaffected Muslim youths, people who would be more likely to be receptive.

This is another story I saw online earlier, which makes me wonder again why nothing was done about the attacker beforehand:

I am looking for one vinyl LP for a band I sang with in the very early 60’s. They were originally “The Stormcats” and morphed into “The Mansfields” which tells you where the group (a band in prehistoric times) members hailed from. Both band names have been appropriated by others, after the originals broke up as I gradually faded out in’63 and ’64 then joined the Army. I wanted to do more Blues and R’n’B, lead guitar (rich kid) wanted to do carp like Ricky Nelson & Bobby Vee. We recorded one LP on which I sang a S**t hot version of Johnny Kidd singing “Shakin’ All Over” and some Chuck Berry/Stones stuff. The problem is that I cannot remember the LP Title! I cudda bin famous, me… B-)

                                      Is this your band?

                                      EDIT: Picture link didn’t work

I vaguely remember sometime in the past someone mentioning a browser plugin that would save the contents of a text box when something happens to the page, so it may be worth a search if it happens regularly for you.

A quirk that could easily be ignored. In fact I would not even raise it except there is a keyboard combination (no idea what) that my fat-fingers sometimes hit that results in the same as selecting the browser back-button. If I knew that particular keyboard combo I’d just remap them!
