My father in law, can’t do tech, and decent dumb phones are now getting do hard to find. He has had a terrible job finding a good simple phone. He must of had 10+ over the last two year. All failing, in rather ear volume, ringer volume, test on screen size, or button size. I just place an order for the “new” fake nokia 3310, I think that may be dumb enough, for him, but actually be a good phone.

Don’t know if this would be any good for him, or anyone here:

(If I have the time to read the whole thing I’m sure I’ll find it’s more complex than the first few paragraphs imply)

If you hadn’t been distracted by your phone, you probably would have finished it ?

On your other point (EFTA) if that comes with “free movement” (AKA unlimited inward immigration) attached, then that is what I voted directly against, having seen the impact that has had locally on schools, housing, health and the rest.

No, you didn’t, and this is the main problem with the referendum (which, incidentally, was advisory only).

          …the ballot paper was:

          • Remain in the European Union
          • Leave the European Union…

The referendum was, as you said, do you want to leave or remain in the EU. Politicians, as well as various unsavoury groups, are now trying to tack on the bits that they personally want, like leaving the ECHR. Theresa May, and now the various right wing parties and groups, keeps shouting about a hard Brexit, with no explanation of what that apparently means, or how to go about it.

One for any scousers here ?

Two Scousers are riding along the M62 from Manchester to Liverpool on a motorbike. They break down and start hitching a lift.

A friendly trucker stops to see if he can help and the scousers ask him for a lift. He tells them that he has no room in the wagon as he is carrying 20,000 bowling balls but will take a look at the bike for them.

He tries everything he knows but is unable to repair it. Time is getting on now and he’s late for his delivery so he tells the scousers he has to leave.

“Hey, c’mon our kid,” they say, “gissa lift…”.

The trucker once again explains that he has no room as he is carrying 20,000 bowling balls.

The scousers put it to the driver that if they can manage to fit in the back with the bowling balls will he give them a lift. The driver agrees.

They finally manage to squeeze themselves and their motorbike into the back of the wagon so the driver shuts the doors and gets off on his way.

By this time he is really late and so puts his foot down. Sure enough the bizzies pull him up for speeding.

One of the officers asks the driver what he is carrying to which he replies “Scouse Eggs”. The policeman obviously doesn’t believe this so wants to take a look. He opens the back door and quickly slams it shut and locks it.

He gets onto his radio and calls for immediate backup from as many officers as possible.

The dispatcher asks what emergency he has that requires so many officers. “I’ve got a wagon with 20,000 Scouse eggs in it – two have already hatched and the bastards have managed to nick a motorbike already”.

Sorry Duke Steam still stinks. Only wanted to continue my game of £42 Doom this morning and got Update for Steam. Update for Doom. Account not found. After a reboot and half an hour account is ok, game is ok and now i can play again. Rubbish.

Couldn’t agree more with this. My computer is running 24/7 with Steam logged in, but I still get random occasions where I have to log in, or update a game before I can play. What’s the point of a permanently running client if it doesn’t keep the games ready to play? ?

I’ve never looked. I found a 5.1 PC speaker set for £25 about 15 years ago, and a DVD player with built in surround at about the same time, and was given my current set.

I’ve found that the newer Sky routers are awful. I bought my house in 2008 and went with Sky, switching to fibre in about 2010. On BB I was getting 5Mb+ compared to 2 Mb at my parent’s in the next street, and on fibre I was getting 38Mb on a 40Mb contract. I moved house and took Sky with me, but they sent a new modem and router combo. After a load of complaints, they sent an engineer with an all in one router. At both points I was getting a maximum of 13Mb, and as low as 2! My brother moved into my old house and could barely get a connection on BB, and struggled to get 10Mb on fibre.

Both of us switched providers within a few months of each other. Now I get 15Mb+ pretty consistently ( good for the distance from the exchange ), and my brother gets 50Mb+

As you’ve still got the backup, try running startup repair from the Windows boot disc and see if that fixes it. If it buggers it up, it’s just a case of wiping and putting the backup on again. It’s my main way of working – try something, and if it breaks, try something else ?

I haven’t seen the other thread yet, but it sounds like you may have backed up one partition, rather than the whole drive. e.g. My SSD has three partitions, as in the picture below. I’m not sure if something like EasyBCD could fix that, or maybe Startup Repair from a Windows disc.

Yes got your message and you should not be asking me things like that in a PM. ??

Don’t use HDR all the time, or you could end up with something like this:

Yep, done that too and nothing. I’m starting to suspect some kind of dodgy connection inside, where it’s been refurbished. It’s possible that the power button worked when I picked it up, but has become disconnected in the meantime, so I’m ordering one of these to make sure I’ve got the right tools:

Thanks Ed, but nothing happens when I press the power button. I think the battery’s holding a charge as I’m not getting the red battery icon, and the power button turned the screen on and off when I had the icon too. I may just do a Clarkson, and ‘it it wiv an ‘ammer ?
