If anyone really wanted to create a hidden anything, it is best to hide them in open sight. That was done in WWII, shuttered ice cream parlours, bungalows that were not bungalows at all and so on. Just use some imagination and make it plausible but ideally quite boring. Like many bases the bunkers were decommissioned many years ago, but sometimes you just might want some sites to be recognised for what they are thought to be.
This is what makes me laugh with Area 51, the supposed secret base that houses the aliens. If you were the US military, and aliens had landed, where’s the one place on earth you wouldn’t keep them? ?
Are there people not seeing the edit link?
I thought regular users could only edit posts for a short time?
Belay my last post. This is one of the problems of not having an edit option. The misinformation is there to be read years down the line. Seems Windows Movie Maker links are fake. Source – Computer Active
Is it both links? If so, I’ll remove them over the weekend ?
The only downside I’ve found with Three so far is the app. It’s probably because we’ve got two numbers on the account and kept our old numbers, but the app doesn’t want to update my details. We’ve had our first bills through, but the app keeps telling me that it can’t do anything until they’ve been produced. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying.
Hospital appointment tomorrow, so a chance for some peace and quiet, and an hour or two playing SNES games on the phone
I took the phone control pad with me to the hospital and played a bit while I was waiting to be called in. When I finished and went to book my next appointment, one of the male nurses stopped me and asked about it. The receptionist noticed it then, and so did the couple waiting behind me. If I’d taken some with me, I could have sold them there and then, everybody loved the idea 😀
Carmageddon TDR 2000 is currently free on GOG
The cameras arrived on Saturday, but other than a quick play with one, I hadn’t had a chance to look at them properly yet, until today.
From the quick play on the weekend, I’m underwhelmed by the low light quality. I need to have a proper look at them, but in a room with the lights on and light shades, it was difficult to make out details.
I’m pretty annoyed with the case. I managed to drop one of the cameras earlier, about three feet onto wood flooring, and it’s compressed the foam studs that hold the camera in place, meaning the buttons on the case can’t reach, so don’t work. It did save the camera, so did its job, but surely an action cam should be able to take a bit of a beating?
On the bright side, the camera seems decent enough in good light, and has plenty of options. The slow motion setting is fun, and the fact that it can be controlled through a phone is very handy. I’ll give it a proper test in the next few days and report back.
I hadn’t thought about mobile. I’d probably get a nvidia shield for trying out some mobile gaming, and a 10 inch device for books and comics. I’d also buy several chargers for each, and plug them in everywhere 😀
I’d put a decent server in the garage. Overkill for what I really need, but I’d get a proper roaming desktop set up for both of us. The number of times one of us has realised that the file we need is on another device is unbelievable. I know Google Drive etc. would probably do what we need, but the internet here is sluggish, and I’ve got 500GB of photos from my DSLR, nevermind the 100GB+ of music.
The blue badge and PIP are the bane of my life. I only ever go out if I’m feeling well enough, which is when I generally don’t need the badge, but if I don’t use it and it turns into a bad day, I’m screwed. The looks we get then when an apparently healthy me gets out of the car are enough to drive me mental. As far as PIP goes, I’ve caught myself not doing things that I can do on a good day, because the current feeling in the country is that I’d be reported as a fraud, and I get annoyed with myself. Where’s the crazy emoji when you need it? 😀
Never mind. Hospital appointment tomorrow, so a chance for some peace and quiet, and an hour or two playing SNES games on the phone
This is the rubber door seal I’ve looked at (haven’t shopped around yet though):
https://www.weatherstop.co.uk/weather-seals-roller-shutter-seal.html
It looks pretty straightforward, and doesn’t leave anything on the threshold that the bike could slip on.
The frame could probably do with renewing, and would almost certainly need filler, but I hadn’t thought of that (Doh!). I think the front wall is double skin brick, but I’m not sure. The internal wall seems to be breezeblock, but the opposite wall and back wall are underground, due to the split level of the house. The right hand side of the garage door and the internal door between the garage and house are quite close to each other too, so I may not be able to build the wall out to insulate it.
I cant explain sorry Bàttèry dead
Is this in the wrong thread by any chance?
… does anybody have any experience with THESE . The blurb that comes with them says they are fine to boost a flat battery and turn the engine over for several seconds, on 5 occasions. That should suffice as it normally starts on the button every time. They don’t seem big enough for what they promise, but they must do ( trade descriptions and the like ). Does anybody have any experience of them in use at all??
I bought a cheap one from ebay a few years ago when I was having trouble starting the bike in the cold weather. It started the bike perfectly three or four times without a recharge, and started a small engined petrol car too. I used it twice to start a diesel ka, and the first time it got quite hot. The second time, the inline fuse melted through the casing and the battery was too hot to touch.
I didn’t know, but diesel engines need a much bigger draw than petrol to get started. Either only use it on petrol engines, or make sure that it’s rated for diesel
Great news Bob, glad she’s on the mend 🙂
Thanks Wasbit, but I bought the Dveetech earlier tonight 🙂
Cool. Thanks 🙂
I’ve just noticed a potential problem with the Dveetech – It wants up to a Class 10 card, and not higher. My guess is that the specs were written a while back, but according to this:
https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/
Class 10 isn’t fast enough for Full HD, never mind 4K.
Is this something worth worrying about, or am I just overthinking it?
Good luck. The first week or two is the hardest, as you’re essentially having withdrawals. You might want to wean yourself off the tea rather than going cold turkey, as caffeine can be a bugger for withdrawal.
Thanks guys 🙂
The Yi cams are supposed to be great, when I looked at them last the spares and accessories were hard to get, if they existed at all. That may well have changed. Had another look at the ebuyer one and that is as far as I can tell the same chassis as my SJ400 which means spare waterproof cases and accessories should be available cheap. I’d put a small wager on the batteries being the same as well. Luckily for Ryan I have a few spare batts and a waterproof case that isn’t being used right now so they are available for a loan to check.
This is one of the things I’m worried about. Because the brand is unknown, I’d have to rely on it being compatible. Looking at their respective sites though, the measurements for the SJ4000 and the Dveetech are pretty close. The SJ4000 is 59.2×29.8×41 mm and the Dveetech is 59×29×40 mm. I imagine that both have a small amount of wiggle room too, given the low price points.

That would be brilliant, thank you 🙂 I’ve pretty much convinced myself to get the Dveetech I think, so if you fancy it, I can pop down and meet you somewhere once it arrives, and let you have a play with it too.
Just got to convince Ellen that it’s an early birthday present to myself now ?
For what ever reason the news feed killed the replies.
It had killed quoting on the mobile site too. I noticed last night, but didn’t get the chance to get on the computer to check until now. It’s working from Chrome on Android now
Thanks PM 🙂
I’m hoping that I won’t bump into too many trees on the bike 😛 If I do take it on the bike, I’ll probably attach it to the bike itself. I’d thought about the bullet cameras, but there seem to be a lot more options for accessories with the GoPro style, so I’m probably going to stick to that style for now.
As an aside to this thread, if I do stick with an action cam, I’ll end up with the bullet style as I can fit two behind my sidelight and try to get 3d video. The sidelight is pretty much in the centre of the front of the bike, and is unused. That’s another ‘what if’ thread though 😛
I’ve just compared the specs of the Dveetech from Ebuyer with the SJ4000, and on paper they’re better. The reviews say that it’s good, so I may give this one a try. I’ve been looking for it online though, and can’t seem to find it anywhere else, not even on eBay, so that’s a downside.
Happy belated birthday 🙂
