It looks like there’s no DRM if you download the books through Linux:
https://the-digital-reader.com/2017/05/15/drm-loophole-found-audible-audiobooks/
If that’s right, you can convert them with any converter. I use Media Monkey myself, as it’s a great organiser too
Thanks Dave 🙂
I’ve got Pro on my main computer, so I’ll give it a try this week.
As regards my PCs I have bluetooth dongles CSR 4.0, in which I transfer photos from my mobile to PC. I am not sure if these dongles can be used for audio output to bluetooth headphones. Looking on the CSR 4.0 link (above) it does say use for headphones, how does it work I have only ever found how to transfer photos.
I’ve got a CSR 4.0 dongle for my PC and it works great. You just pair the two devices, and they do the rest. I got the dongle after my thread here:
https://forumite.co.uk/forums/topic/bluetooth-audio-from-pc/
and this is the dongle I bought:
The hdd thread you point to, seems fined my end, I can like Boris post, and I just did a test post too I’ll like it for you
Thanks Steve! 😀
I just refreshed the Latest Replies page, and Boris’ post is still showing as unread from over six hours ago. I don’t know if Steve’s test post affected it or not?
Same here. One at the moment.
EDIT: I’m getting some other random problems too, so they may be related. For a few days I’ve been getting the extended history in Chrome again. If I open the forum and click a link, then hold the back button to see the history, I get a lot of instances of the first page. It’s usually the Latest Replies page in my case:
https://forumite.co.uk/forums/

I’ve also just noticed that I can’t currently like Boris’ post here:
https://forumite.co.uk/forums/topic/noisy-hdd/page/2/#post-21330
The heart changes colour when I hover, but nothing happens when I click.
I don’t know if they’re related, but I thought it might help.
I bought this one for Ellen last Christmas. It was £35 then, and definitely worth it. She put it on in the kitchen yesterday, and it drowned out the TV in the living room 😀
Thanks Dave 🙂
The Samsung site listed on the drive has now been redirected to Seagate, and they have no record of my drive…
Ellen freezes a plastic takeaway container full of treats and snacks, topped off with water. We separate the dogs and give them one each. In their rush to get to the snacks, they usually eat the ice too. Thanks to the size and shape of the containers, we can usually keep a couple in the freezer too.
Best do that on the 250GB if it’s old too. If it’s not a WD you’ll need the diagnostics from whoever the OEM is. I know where to find them.
Have you got a link for Samsung’s diagnostics please Dave?
Daft question, but have you tried it outside to rule out interference in the house?
Tommy Robinson, AKA Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, AKA about half a dozen other names, is a far right troublemaker, and has got himself arrested for, as I understand it, interfering in a court case. He was on a suspended sentence from last year, and turned up to a trial of an Asian grooming gang where the men are either Muslim, or have Muslim sounding names (he strangely doesn’t bother if the accused are white British). He then caused a fuss shouting abuse and accusations which could prejudice the jury and deny the men the right to a fair trial.
He reportedly mentioned the suspended sentence when he was arrested, apparently knowing that he would go straight to jail, and seems to prefer the publicity over the inconvenience of a few months behind bars. This seems to be a staged event, but his followers are the type of knuckle draggers who think that everyone with brown skin is a Muslim and an immigrant, along with stealing jobs whilst also being on the dole. In short, they’re stupid enough to believe him.
Within a few hours of his arrest, several Go Fund Me accounts have been set up in his name, which also says a lot about the people surrounding him.
If you’ve got any doubt about the man’s character, remember that when the taxi crashed in London last year, Tommy Robinson was on the scene within minutes live streaming a xenophobic rant to his followers, while the emergency services were still working on the victims.
I used WSUS when I was a corporate drone. The 4GB upgrade works in a different way and in this age of fast data download it’s not a huge issue.
When that age reaches the valleys, I might agree with you! ?
Got myself a San Disk encrypted 32GB USB 3.1 stick for £9
Have you got a link please? Does it work with other OSes than Windows 10?
We’ve been using Android Auto in Ellen’s new car, but EMUI, the Huawei (Honor) interface interferes. Sometimes phonecalls just don’t work, and there are other niggling problems.
Waze is great though. I use it on the phone regularly, and it beeps if you go over the speed limit. I think it only beeps once though, so if you miss it, you don’t get another warning.
Mine usually fail, hence trying Rufus as well. It tall goes OK and boots fine, but when you go to install it says drivers are missing. So much so that I have a USB that works but is a year+ out of date and do the 4GB update to the latest version afterwards.
Daft question, as it was probably you who introduced this to the forum, but have you tried WSUS Offline Update to save downloading the update every time? It does Office too
I’ve been meaning to set up a time lapse for ages, but I never get around to it. We’ve got beautiful views down the valley, and a train line and bypass nearby, so there could be some interesting videos and photos.
House Doctors are also pretty useless at cannulas as they do not do it often enough. Ambulance crews and phlebotomists are ace at it.
At the beginning of 2011 I was in the hospital regularly, as were a lot of the patients on the ward. We got to know which doctors and nurses could get a cannula in, and who liked a bit of target practice. Depending on who walked onto the ward, you could see the regulars cringing and the newbies looking really confused, until it was their turn ?
Thank you Ryan, very useful information, if a bit worrying! But helpful.
Bob, it’s honestly not as bad as it sounds. I imagine you know what a cannula feels like by now, but the PICC lines are not painful, just strange. As it’s a procedure, you do get the painkiller injections (Lidocaine in my case), and they tend to be uncomfortable for a few seconds. After that, it’s that odd pushing and pulling feeling, similar to the dentist after the injection starts working.
I had to turn my head for the lines in my neck and chest, so I couldn’t see anything, but watching them put the line into my groin was fascinating. It was a bit disturbing though, as the doctor doing it was a young and extremely attractive blonde. I didn’t think anything of it when they told me she’d be doing the procedure during the morning rounds, until one of the other patients later pointed out how pretty she was and where her head would be at the time. Then not so subtly said ‘I hope you don’t get *ahem* excited!’ Paranoid was an understatement! ??
@steviep It sounds like you’re going through a lot at the moment. Good luck, and I hope things settle down for you soon 🙂My wife will probably have 8 sessions, 4 at two week intervals and three more at 3 week intervals with loads of tests and appointments between each one. She was advised by every one to go the PICC line route rather than the cannula in the hand method which can have more difficulties. I wondered which method you two encountered or had planned for the infusions?
I’ve had low doses of chemo through both the PICC line and cannula, and they’ve both got their ups and downs.
The PICC, once it was in, felt much easier during the infusion. I’m not 100% sure any more, but I think the infusions were quicker too. I’ve had lines in my neck, chest, and groin. They were all uncomfortable at first, but they freed up my hands. As the infusions I had could take up to eight hours, that was a major benefit.
Inserting the line is a minor procedure though, which comes with its own problems. The line could only be inserted by a doctor, so if there was an urgent case on the ward, I was waiting. At least once it turned a ‘day trip’ (journey out from the ward) into an overnight stay. The procedure is uncomfortable, and the feeling of the line going in is odd! There’s also the issue of keeping the line clean if your wife is allowed home with it in (not everybody is, but the doctor should let you know beforehand).
A cannula is much easier to insert, and after the first few minutes, your wife probably won’t notice it. Part of my condition means that the veins in my arms are very hard to find, so the cannula would have to go in my hand. As there’s only a short amount of vein to play with, I couldn’t use whichever hand it was in. Not the end of the world, but I couldn’t hold a proper book, and learned which beep from the machines meant straighten your bloody hand! 😀
A downside of the cannula is that a new one has to be used every time, meaning a new injury as it’s placed. If your wife has trouble with her veins, they may need to use the same site more than once, and that may mean that it doesn’t heal in between, especially with a relatively short window between sessions. Again, not a major problem, but it’s worth being aware of possible discomfort.
Whichever method she chooses, I hope it goes as smoothly as possible for you and your wife, and for you too Bob.
Attracting them runs in my family. We bought my father a T-shirt that says ‘Why do all the nuters sit next to me?’ 😀
That’s what I usually do too Steve, but there’s no drive cage in this case. It was a bit of a shock ?
