If you’re on Twitter, it might be worth asking @PaulOBrien from Modaco. He’s tested them both recently 🙂

If you can wait until weekend, I’m not sure if I still have one or two. If one, you’re out of luck since it’s my emergency backup in case anything goes wrong with my switch. If I still have two, you can have one. But I need time to search.

That would be brilliant Dan, thanks 🙂

If it’s there, let me know what you want for it, and for postage ?

I’m sure that “WWAN” slot must be for a WWAN card on account of the label and the antenna cables there.

That’s what’s confusing though. The cables are routed away from the WWAN slot, to the 1/2 mini slot next to it. They’re going through cutouts in the laptop too, so it’s not just a case of them being moved at some point in the past.

Does your laptop have a SIM card slot?

It does, yeah, under the battery.

Sorry, I’m still used to Dropbox, and not Google Photos

I’m a bit confused now that I’ve looked into it though, as my wifi card (to the right of this pic) has three antenna cables, but the ac card you and Dave mention in this thread only has two. Also, the slot on the left there has two antenna cables, but it’s apparently not for wifi, WWAN, or Bluetooth. I’ve also got an msata card that would fit perfectly into the WWAN slot ? My brian’s not working 😉

Just to finish this off, when fitting an M2 SSD card (£27 for a 120GB) I noticed there’s a WWLAN port next to it. Googling I found that the slim slot is accessible when you flip the battery out. Took a punt on a seond hand WWAN card of ebay for a tenner – works lovely. Only 3G but tested with my 3 and vodafone SIMs AOK. I’ll almost certainly never need it – if I take this anywhere I’ll tether off my phone if there’s no WiFi – but for a tenner why not!

That’s a coincidence. I was going to post asking if this was to do with the SIM on my new Dell:

As you say though, I’ve always got my phone for tethering.

Some have the WiFi circuitry on a soldered on chip, this is the most common. Some, like that Asus, have a laptop adaptor in a socket. Same horse different jockey.

Sorry to ask another question, but do you know why it’s got a USB connector? I would have thought that everything went through the PCIe slot?

                        Possibly free games…

I had the usual Humble Bundle email through today, and it said that some games were free for a short time for subscribers. It wasn’t too clear whether it meant newsletter subscribers, or the $12 a month Humble Bundle subscribers. I tried downloading one of the games anyway, and it worked. I don’t know if they mean that these games work until the 16th, or you can only download them until then, but I’m downloading the lot to find out

Unless you know the signal is good, I prefer ones with an external antenna as the back of a PC is usually the worst place. Something like this

                          Thanks Dave 🙂

I was a bit confused looking at these, as I wasn’t sure if they were just PCIe adaptors, or if they had the card too. My knowledge has basically disappeared over the last few years.

just found Wave Going to give that a go first.

Wave looks brilliant. Thanks for the link Dave 🙂

The festival I help with wants to send out invoices to the venues just to cover our backs, so I was going to knock some up in Word. I’ve just done a test invoice for my photography business that I never got around to starting, and it took a few minutes. It looks great too, very professional.

                              Thanks Wasbit 🙂

I’ve had the refund from Wish. I used their contact form to message them a few days ago, and explained that it was a fake drive. The next day (10th) I had an email back saying a refund could take a few days, with no dispute at all. That email was sent on the 10th at 04:23. I had an email from Paypal on the 10th at 04:25 saying that the refund had been processed.

The seller was a scammer, but Wish / Geek were great. No quibbles, and an immediate refund without needing to send the fake drive back. I’ve got another few weeks before the rest of the order is due to arrive (I knew it would be slow when I ordered), but I’m much more confident now.

I’ve just tried to install the Android app, and it won’t install on the Honor 9 or the OnePlus One. It will go on the Alba 8in though (Argos tablet).

EDIT: I’m not sure about this one. You have to turn on the allow less secure apps option if you want to use a Gmail based email address, and the Android app will only use landscape, which is a pain on a low res tablet.

I bought a chinese 10″ tablet a few years ago, and ended up just using it to read comics, and have just bought a 2nd hand 8″ Argos special for £20 to put the motorbike manuals on in the garage. I’m finding that it’s a lovely size for me though. It’s a bit small for comics, but because it fits in my hand so nicely, I’m finding it better to use for random things like the odd Google search.

I think that of you find a niche for a tablet, they’re great, otherwise a phone or computer is more convenient. The phone is always there and always connected, and the computer is more powerful.

Surprise surprise, it got 5% through copying and failed. The device malfunctioned and is not recognised by Windows. I’m going to try it on the laptop just to rule out a brand new and really coincidental problem with my computer 😉

Let’s see how good their returns policy really is…

The 2TB flash drive has arrived. I’ve tried two burn in programs to test the drive, but one did next to nothing, and the other crashed. I’m copying a load of music and videos onto the drive instead, but it’s sloooooow!

Where your BT socket sits is not usually a good place.

Is there a maximum length for the cable between the router and the socket (RJ11?), or are there better quality cables? I’ve got a 2m cable on mine so I can move the router away from the corner.

Still have the Amazon Prime which currently has only one show I watch (Preacher)

If you like Preacher, give Lucifer and American Gods a try. This is my current watchlist 🙂
